Maybe but you need to be the dominant sport to do that. That's one, if not the main, advantage RL in Australia has. Secondly Samoans, Tongans and Fijians are born to play Rugby and its in their blood, its the main sport on all these islands. Their families even growing up in Australia or NZ will all be so inclined. That coupled with the dominance of RL and its a potent mix.

In England it's far more likely these people will be playing Football and that their families are all into Football, maybe Cricket too in the case of Jamaica.

It won’t be the main sport like in the SH but there’s still some good players being produced that are eligible such as Dom Young, Cai Taylor Wray, Kieran Rush, Junior  Nsemba, Sam Eseh etc.

They won’t produce the amount of heritage players that Tonga and Samoa do but the countries have much bigger populations so there’s an advantage there if they could increase domestic activity

Oh for goodness sake you have no idea what people in England think or how they rate teams . Every post you write just keeps proving the point.... Pleeeeeeaaase stop posting about things you have absolutely zero knowledge of or evidence for...

Another forum member posted a while back about how an RU fan friend of his saw the Pacific island countries' teams.  His friend called them "plucky" and had the view that they shouldn't trouble the likes of England.  So those teams reaching the top of the RL pyramid isn't going to impress the likes of him much.

In contrast you and others who claim it's not like that have never provided any evidence to back that view up.

England 48  v Samoa 14, Twickenham, 2017. Attendance 81,911. All there to see the pluck.

I’m sorry but the gates *are* there for South Sea island teams, because they’re competitive.

I think if you’d said ‘the English RU view is England ought to win but it’ll be a good game’ then you’d have been nearer the mark, rather than extrapolating off some unevidenced memory of some bloke on here’s mate…

I was there for that RU match, I’ll be watching the RL one later (admittedly on the BBC).

The Samoans must've been devasted when they heard your friend wasn't impressed by them. Does your friend happen to be "King Charles"?

I guess the real difference is - and something we need to improve in RL - is that most England RU games are seen as events and days out with your mates / family- irrespective of how competitive the game would be.

The sooner we realise we need to build our international scene into "events" rather than just a game the better. Our product on the field is so much better than RU - but our event feel is drastically behind

Really, really hope today's game is a close thriller, something like 20-18 with plenty of drama and talking points.

If there's one thing international RL needs to give it a shot in the arm its the perception to the wider sporting public that games are competitive and enjoyable. The sport only gets a few windows of opportunity with a terrestrial broadcaster - let's hope this one counts!

"The Brick Community Stadium has 2,000 car parking spaces located around the stadium.

PLEASE RESPECT RESIDENTS OF THE AREAS SURROUNDING THE BRICK COMMUNITY STADIUM BY USING OFFICAL OFFICIAL PARKING FACILITIES"

Those two paragraphs should be easy to reconcile as long as everyone turns up in a minibus.

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

Well up for this now. Heading up with one of my mates and taking my old man too. Really hoping we see a close, competitive game and a dramatic small margin England win.

Hi. Can I just rock up at the stadium today and get tickets? Where abouts is ticket office at Wigan? Cheers

Yea you can. Hope you enjoy the game.

It does seem that Wigan are doing all of this rather than the RFL.

Every club should be advertising the games, particularly those near where the games are taking place.

Unless they really haven't done well with sales.

Yeah sure. That's not what I was referring to though. I was talking about the organising of all the pre-match events and putting stuff on for fans. I'm not sure if there would be anything if Wigan wasn't doing it.

Wigan are getting a lot of email addresses as a by-product presumably if people are buying tickets through them?

Well obviously Wigan will benefit financially from doing this. That's obvious.

When we are talking about the RFL failing to make games into events then hoping the host club does it doesn't really cut it and doesn't lead to a uniform approach. We saw this first hand in the World Cup.

Do you not like a tour? Nigel Wood and Ralph Rimmer really think you'll like a tour?

People do like Ashes tours. That's what that was meant to be, until the Aussies pulled out of staging one (it was also one of their proposals). Bit of a common theme.

The only downside to that idea of touring was mucking about with GB vs England. The big issue with it was the Aussies.

Always used to use the official car park when it was free, then one year I went to the pie dome and they were charging and it took so much longer to get in that we decided never again.

Glad you managed to get a real representative sample of the British public there.

Embarrassing for you to call that evidence, just like some of the viewpoints you've expressed.

Some people have said the Internet has had a negative effect on society, but I ask, where else would you get two sentences like this in the same place if not for the Internet.

you're happy to take one person's "story" as evidence yet you say I cannot provide evidence when I have told you many many times about all the people that I know who think the complete opposite of what you are saying or just don't care...

Oh yes because it doesn't fit the utter garbage that you want to push..

Just please realise what you "see" is just not true in this country and that what you "think" the problem is is actually not a problem. There is a reason very few people agree with you...

That is exactly the problem IMHO its everything around it..

I went to England v Tonga at Huddersfield last year with my son... He thought the whole atmosphere for an international was appalling. The game was good but there was nothing to make it stand out from a Normal game. We go to the challenge cup final no matter who is on, we go to Tottenham matches from Sheffield because (for reasons best known to him) that's who he supports.. so I don't mind putting my hand in my pocket or travelling. But he is not wanting to go to a Samoa game this year because the event is bobbins, we'll watch on TV but without him being fussed I'm not really either!

The last one down under was 32 years ago and there have been a grand total of five in the past fifty years.

Let's wait and see until after the 2025 tour before deciding if people really do like them.
