How can you get that information? Can you see how many are left in the other stands?

On the ticketing website you select find by 'section' rather than 'seat map'. It then tells you availability in each area.

Currently 1,461 available on south stand terrace, 869 on east stand terrace and 768 on western terrace. No seats still available.

Some background information

Population of Samoa= 200,000

Population of Wigan= 329,000 (ONS)

Read Wikipedia on Samoa. Really interesting.

Is that the channel name?

There's nothing on the RFL channel. Most recent video there is Wakefield v Toulouse.

I'm curious to know how many views a UK outlet have for the same footage vis-a-vis NRL on YouTube.

This one and 'hardly any' are the answers. Given that it comes up after the NRL and other channels not showing highlights when I search, I think we can probably mark it down as 'good idea, not particularly well delivered'.

The BBC page isn't one of those that logs views so no idea for them - it was on the main page for a short time and is now just on the rugby league one.

Got it with your direct link.

When I type "England Rugby League" into YouTube, that channel is nowhere to be seen.

1.9k views in 17 hours. NRL channel now at 223k in 20 hours.

Indeed. Well, we wouldn't want to let anyone know about our game, would we?

The England Rugby League youtube channel was launched on 20 Oct 2024.

Not really had time to get into the algorithm. Like, comment and subscribe!

The NRL Youtube channel has 450,000 subscribers. The RFL one has fewer than 1,000 and, as pointed out above, was only started this month. Why this wasn't uploaded to the RFL channel, which at the very least has 30,000 subscribers, is one for others to figure out.

Nonetheless 450,000 people got the England x Samoa game posted on their subscription feed. Throw in Britons searching for it and coming across the NRL channel and the discrepancy in viewing figures between the two channels is to be expected.

Presumably people would just watch the game on iplayer anyway if not these other mediums.

I'm sure you're right. Most of the NRL's Youtube audience is from Oceania in all likelihood. It does highlight how significant it can be when you have a large subscriber base. It's much easier to watch something when it comes to you, rather than having to go searching for it.

The youtube algorithm changes over time, but there have been benefits to having multiple linked youtube channels with more focused content rather than lots of varied content on one channel. Launching a new England channel would be good for that, but it needs a bigger push to make people aware of the channels.

I suspect that works better for very popular videographers. ESPN, for example, has a variety of channels dedicated to the various sports they broadcast or cover.

If we're talking about one channel that has 30,000 subscribers (RFL), and on that is brand new, you're really limiting your reach. To be perfectly honest it should have been posted on the biggest RL-related channel in Britain, which at present is the Super League channel with 50,000 subscribers.

Alternatively, you could post on all three channels. The Kangaroos don't have their own channel, and the Pacific Championships highlights are posted on both the NRL and NRL on Nine channels.

My Youtube habits always involve clicking on the subscriptions tab and scrolling through what's new. Having to seek out things means 1) you're aware of what you're searching for, and 2) it's adding a barrier between the viewer and content. A channel is then having to hope it makes your front page, which is no guarantee.

Personally, I see no benefit in divvying up content across various channels unless you're already so popular that you want to avoid spamming large subscribers bases with content they're not interested in (ala ESPN).

I can't for a second imagine that people subscribed to the RFL or Super League channels have no interest in the national team.

That said, the BBC iplayer is ubiquitous, so as Damien said it's likely the default go-to for most people. Perhaps that relegates Youtube to afterthought-status.

Great to see:

Thought it was great that the England team stood their ground, no steps forward and no steps back, showing the challenge laid down was accepted gracefully but would be contested.

Must admit I wasn't expecting Chan Kum Tong to get right up in Lewis's grill like that. Thought Lewis handled it in exemplary fashion and it certainly added a bit of spice. How are they going to top that at Headingley though ..

Loving this. 😀

A big boo to all the killjoys who moan about players talking, laughing with the opposition.

These two points formed the background to my question.

Whether we like it or not, "NRL" is now the widely-recognized branding for the sport of Rugby League.

"England Rugby League" is not the wisest choice for social media. Pretty obvious how algorithms will respond to anything with "England" and "Rugby" in the title.

413 tickets sold since this was posted.

So at around 100 tickets an hour, 116 hours to kick off. By my reckoning it should be a sell out around 0330 on Friday morning.

Seems like this could well be a decent occasion.

Not sure if it's just me but there (now) seems to be more positivity around this series than there was for Tonga last year.

Read Wikipedia on Samoa. Really interesting.

Most people who identify as Samoan live elsewhere, over 300k in AUS and NZ with similar numbers in the US.

Very pleasantly surprised by how sales are going for Leeds.

It's awesome that a small nation like samoa can come all the way to England and near sell out games. The international game has got a lot of potential
