Possibly much easier to manipulate over a season.

Ah! You think that, because the attendances aren't announced to the public, they won't be announced to the RFL either.

I never thought of that, for some reason.

Seems an odd stance, particularly if other clubs join in, and one could assume its a control on the narrative when it comes to IMG points and average crowds (which isn't something HKR would struggle with).

Just make announcing an accurate attendance (defined however chosen) part of the operational rules that all clubs must meet to even get an IMG grading.

Problem, such as it is, solved.

Why is it a problem?

How are you going to get unwilling clubs to vote for such a change?

If Leeds fans haven't got any enthusiasm for their upcoming season then it is because they are still too blessed with their memories of winning trophies constantly, oh what it would be like to be in a Leeds fans shoes.

Cas fans on the other hand, I can imagine why they also may have no enthusiasm for the upcoming season.

Think Cas will be safe

Toulouse will drop to 13th.

Yeah I think not publishing attendances is probably the way forward for a lot of clubs. Again Bradford are an easy example (but again its not just them its just theirs are the most obvious) but not giving out an attendance figure seems a lot easier than announcing over 4k when there are actually less than half of that in the ground.

I don't necessarily think it is a problem but that would be a very simple way to fix it, if it were.

IMG have already said that they will taking their own figures for attendance (I.e. not just what the clubs tell them), which won't include season ticket holders that aren't there. How they are going to do this I don't know but maybe taking sections of the stadium and extrapolating the data for total attendance figures.

IMG/RFL: "are these attendance figures genuine?"

Club: "yes"

IMG/RFL: "great, thanks"

Interestingly, the new proposals in football around the 'Super League' include promotion and relegation...

Football also has 2 of its top 20 clubs financially from last year in the English Championship. Not really on the same level is it...

Is each ground going to have an IMG gate?

It will be based on the code scans / turnstile clicks. Which is the number that is reported to safety officers

I just checked and they are going to take these figures but also do their own random audits to ensure the figures are accurate.

Between the super league leagues because the clubs all already have LEDs installed. But promotion to the super league leagues is based on accumulated performance, not a single season.

Please explain that Thomas, will they or won't they be competing in a league system in that they earn points on a ladder that will determine whether they finish in such a position that will see clubs Promoted or Relegated?

You know that I have no interest in the round ball ball game therefore I do not look for any information relevant to it, but in this case with your answer to @MattSantoscould you please clarify for me is Promotion and Relegation to from the Championship based on financial grading? I suspect not.

Without actually doing a head count and then subtracting the non attending ST holders, how can they possibly arrive at figures that are accurate?

I am not being evasive just curious.

Will the Champions also be deemed on an average of finishing positions over multiple seasons, or a single season?

It’s an additional competition (proposed at this stage) additional to domestic leagues. Group stages followed by knock out. Three closed leagues with promotion between them. Outsiders will be invited in based on performance over several years.

Similar to the proposal for the Challenge Cup.

Thanks for that, but I read Tommy's answer as relevant to the English Championship?

I think he was just making the observation that there are clubs equivalent in size to the biggest in the country sitting outside the top division. That is true in football, less true in rugby.
