York RLFC v Dewsbury Rams 11th August, KO: 15:00

Recommended Posts

All these converted touch judges appear to be getting assigned to our fixtures. Last three fixtures = Poumes at Toulouse, Denton v Wakefield and Turley v York. Looks like the RFL have made us their Championship Guinea Pig team.

Yes, I thought we had come across him before. Refs might make us raise an eyebrow now and then but I don't recall any actually causing us to lose, or win, a match.

Even Darcey Lawler was exonerated!

I would usually support that statement BSJ ...... But Gareth Hewer came VERY close on a few occasions ...... or so it seemed at the time ...... 😉

I'm sure he very much cost us the game away at Widnes quite a few years back allowing them to score in the 7th play and win.

Didn't see him for a while after that, but he definitely go his career back on track as I remember him taking charge of the CC final Hull vs Warrington, in as much as you hardly noticed him that day, and on the odd occasion you did he seemed to be 100% spot with his calls

No interest in this match judging by the lack of activity on this forum. I did read elsewhere that Martyn Sadler had commented about the TRL forums in general "use them or lose them" - sadly we will probably lose this medium before too long.

In the meantime I will predict:

York 36 - 16 Rams

FTS Hookem

MoM Hookem

Att a few

There's a number of club forums which aren't used at all. Think they are more at risk.

Yes, but TRL won't close them down piecemeal - it might be the entire platform.

I think the forums would go better if Facebook were to close down.   Most of the chat is on there these days and just a few of us oldies left to communicate the old way.  😦

I don’t have Facebook, but from what I can gather, I’m better off without it. Apparently there is a lot of vindictive comments made about people, even those supporting the same club.

Yet another defeat is on the cards with this fixture. York were thrashed at Halifax last week and I reckon Applegarth will have taken steps to remedy the situation. Beware the wounded animal  I say.

York 42-10 Dewsbury

FTS: Turner

MoM: Graham

Att: 1965

Well, we really set about wronging the rights of last week with this terrible outing today. We just cannot put two goodish performances together.

Even when the hooter had sounded we couldn’t manage a tackle on the York player who offloaded in the attempted tackle, then the ball was passed to the left, followed by a high cross field kick that should have been meat and drink for the catching capabilities of Brad Graham. Today the ball was dropped and the retiring Keinhorst was between the posts for his second try and then his second goal. There the game ended, thankfully!

York started with a try on three minutes down the right; in fact all five first half tries were scored on our left side and four within a few metres of each other. I think our try in the first half was a fortunate, yet well worked effort when O’Connor caught a kick, spotted a gap and made nigh on 60 metres before being tackled. The ball then went right and, courtesy of a set restart, came back left with Whiteley using his power to avoid being tackled into touch and touching down. Turner’s flapper just crested the crossbar.

York simply carried on in the same manner after the break. Our poor tackling probably made them look better than they probably are (check next week after their visit to Toulouse to see if there is a comparison). They did run with purpose and passed quickly, whereas Dewsbury were slow to pick up the ball after a tackle, there was the usual slow passing to a standing teammate and we did well went to make fifty metres in a set.

The penalty count at one point was 5-1 to the home side, pulling it back to 5-5, yet on one of those we couldn’t kick the ball in to touch. York sealed that with two more late on.

Disappointing doesn’t come close and player of the match? Not many covered themselves in glory; Turner faded after a bright start, Hookem was okay, as was O’Connor with his early break and scorer of our second try. Dixon got through a fair bit before being subbed so that he could make an early start his two week holiday! I’d give it to Butterworth for his energy.

I should end by saying well done to both teams for giving us some entertainment in the heat of today.

Comprehensively beaten as expected today.

I thought Ronan Dixon did well and put in a good stint as did Butterworth but not  sure many of the others came out with much credit.

I don’t know why Jamie Field isn’t given a chance as he always seems to be loyal to the club. Either give him a game or if he is not deemed good enough release him to go back to the amateur game to play with his mates.

Hopefully we can reset as a club and improve next year and get a bit of pride back in the club.

Depressingly poor today. It's very hard to see much of a future for the team or club as things stand.

I don't think there's much point of us being anything other than a League One club without any medium to long term planning. It's simply not in the club's interest to be a Championship club any more if we are just going to make up the numbers for a few months.

I've heard of talk of Paul March wanting to sign a lot of local lads for next season to get local people more interested in the club. I don't think that's a bad idea if we can find players who want to play for the club and shirt. And hopefully if they do we can sign them on contracts for a few years (more than one, at least) to develop a rapport between the players and the fans. Then maybe build a platform for the future. Give us something to want to turn up for.

But Championship rugby league? We're not suited for it any more.

I don't think Shaw Cross will be happy if he rips the guts out of their successful team this season if honest.

It's a good idea in principle, but there's a good reason most of them are playing amateur rugby. It's because they either are not good enough or don't want to play semi-pro. Bailey O'Connor is the only player who has joined directly from amateur who has gone straight into a good level.

York posted the same score against Barrow. Our players have come off the back of playing two full-time teams.

Next two weeks offer a genuine opportunity if winning if we can post a good performance.

Fell out of love with the game, I think but glad he has returned. He's sensible and not overly noticeable which is a good asset. Thought he had a decent game.

I listened to your commentary as I watched the game and thought it had a touch of York bias (to be expected I suppose as you represent the city), but generally a good combination of reporting the game and some light hearted comments. One such springs to mind of the Dewsbury player ‘sidewinding’ from right to left and your comment, “If he goes any further he’ll end up in Acomb!”. That move is known as (to some of the older supporters of Dewsbury) the “Johnny Moore” move, as the winger of a few decades ago, was prone to do.

Tell me, were York good, or Dewsbury lamentably poor?

Fair play to Mr Turley. I also thought that he gave a very good non too fussy performance.

My honest view although I appreciate you were not asking me. Being totally honest York we’re nothing special. 50 points flattered them even though Ata missed a fair few early kicks. However they were well worth the win by at least 30 - 40 points. I am loath to pour scorn or blame the Dewsbury lads. The simple fact is we lack and have lacked the fundamental tools to compete throughout this whole tough uncompromising Championship season. The players have been completely hung out to dry. The 17 we put out yesterday was quite frankly pitiful. At this stage some of those lads are not equipped to compete at this level. The few in the team who are and believe me we have some don’t stand a cat in hell’s chance against all these other more competent teams. Two points all season so far says it all! Some of these players will be moving on and these difficult experiences will put them in good stead moving forward. Because when the wins come along they will taste so much sweeter.

I agree. He sorted out the couple of niggly bits of the match without fuss and worked well with his touch judges.

"Legs Dews !" Else would  have shouted  yesterday, 100 times. A shocking performance.  Paul March should have been sacked weeks ago.  Shut the north stand as well, and put the few of us left behind the sticks.

Unfortunately there is no better coaches out there that would come here and that's better than Paul march that will get the team playing and winning, people say have a reset that's all well and good but nothing will change until we can ever get some more investment into the club to move it forward plus been part time will always make it harder when in the championship to compete with others, its a struggle and so far there is no magic wand to make it better!
