Maybe there should be a RL Commercial Needs a Rob Oates article? 😉

If you're not tweeting like a man who's had several too many to drink after a game your work is of no importance unfortunately.

I always like to see companies that I like get involved in our game (and I know they have sponsored RL before), but as a family package holiday provider, I think Jet2 are pretty much excellent, in a field that can be very very mixed.

Jet2 have become pretty much our go to holiday package provider and even if we use another company we try and choose one that uses Jet2 flights. Their staff are excellent.

Its the only company my parents will use, after a few years of severe problems with others, mainly Ryanair and easyjet the useless cretins, they book every year with Jet2.

Glad they are on-board with my club as a sponsor, but I can't help but smile at some of these comments, Jets2's planes are the most uncomfortable and basic of any carrier, little leg room must be shortest spacing possible to cram in another couple of rows and the quality of the seats must be the cheapest about. But yes the staff are very nice.

No where near as bad as Ryanair though. Jet2 is far better in every department.

Jet2 though is simply what you'd expect from a budget airline and you pay your money and take your choice. If you want cheap flights you expect there to be compromises, if you want a better experience then you can do that but expect to pay a lot more.

The thing Jet2 do much better than the other bigger budget airlines is nice one in pricing, you see the ticket price and thats what it is, with maybe one option for the baggage. Ryanair and easyjet are a farce, loads of extra fees as you progress through the booking, just a rip off.

That tweet is bizarre.

What’s the ‘most other clubs’ jibe all about?

I may have to take back what I said about it being positive across RL land for Jet2.

An insecure and small-time mentality that permeates from the owner on down I suspect.

I’m sure the Leigh supporters would much prefer to get their Membership boxes from Jet2 staff than have discounted flights.

Is that what theyre trying to suggest?

Given the positive endorsement of Jet2 on here, its difficult to see how the "deal" wll bring any more revenue to Jet2. It seems everyone is using them already. Still, as long as Jet2 pay some of your money to Leigh, who cares?

Saw it more self deprecating, than a jibe at other clubs

Makes you wonder why Pepsi or Coca-Cola pay so much money to TV stations for adverts...

Do you honestly think that the club / club social media admin think that getting them to pack boxes is better than discounts on flights?

Not a tweet I'd have sent out, but I generally find attempts at humour from branded accounts to be a bit cringeworthy anyway, but I certainly don't see it as a dig at other clubs.

While I have my own views on the posters who seem to come on and try and make everything about Leigh, it allows me to form opinions on other posters who sometimes manage to see negative where there is none.  Unsurprisingly it is always the same ones.

As a crossover I have read recently that IMG are changing the 'targets' for social media engagement as many of the clubs were reaching the top level they had set for 'clicks' etc.  The numbers required will be increased so that only a few clubs would be able to score maximum points. In the next grading session, or at least that is their plan.  Leigh have had lots of coverage over the link up with Jet2 which leads to interest on all their social media accounts.  The clicks would appear to be more important than the money (whatever it is) in acheiving as many IMG points as possible. They are already  almost guaranteed to have around a 0.7 increase due to the attendance from their last championship season being replaced with say an 8k average this season (0.5 for avg plus increased utilisation score).  Nothing they are doing is bad for RL. It only appears to be bad to the negative (jealous??) rugby league fans of this country.

This game should be dining out on a RL team winning team of the year on SPOTY and big name sponsors being attracted, after all we always question why that other game has so many big name sponsors and fill out their big game stadiums virtually every time.

As hard as it is for me to say Wigan and Leigh are doing the things all clubs should be striving to do and that is bringing the game to the attention of the masses.

Exactly how I took it, and even if it was aimed at other clubs it would still be the most tepid, room temperature ‘burn’ compared to the usual banter shared between club twitter admins during the season(Warrington being a prime example).

Jet2 aren't a 'low-cost / budget' airline.   They moved away from this model to become the UK's biggest holiday company.

A 'low-cost' airline does everything at minimum cost, bargaining the cheapest contracts with suppliers to enable them to sell seats at the lowest / competitive prices.

Jet2 have a completely different model.   Most of the income is from package holidays, with a lot of flights being entirely reserved for package holidaymakers with no 'seat-only' fares available.   The cost of flights and holidays is not nearly the cheapest, but they make money from repeat custom by having the best customer service and holidaymaker experience.   A lot of the revenue is reinvested in vertical integration, with Jet2 having their own handling services at the airport, their own staff and own equipment.   Even overseas.

It's interesting to see them do sports sponsorship, as most of the marketing budget in the past seems to have gone on TV presence and Social Media.

Well I certainly wasn’t expecting quite such a visceral reaction to what was clearly a pretty harmless joke. Some incredibly touchy people on this thread.

Hardly ‘visceral’ more just pointing out that it seemed strange.

A Leigh fan calling people touchy is rather ironic 🙂
