Obituary Thread - 2018

Recommended Posts

Mary Wilson, the wife of the former Prime Minister Harold Wilson.

She hated politics, apparently, but stayed with her husband and lived to the age of 102.

"Yet, ever loyal to her husband, she seldom complained. She trudged the streets with him, shook millions of hands, subjected herself to the agony of interviews, listened to thousands of speeches, travelled all over the country talking to women’s groups, but always with a tired smile which seemed to suggest a cross between polite interest and sheer misery."

Whatever people think of him he got himself out of the cycle that is being working class, and built an empire. Not to be done again as the oppprtunity to do so is not available anymore.

Starting at the bottom of the ladder, Stringfellow made a life for himself of cheerfully unapologetic vulgarity, and I reckon his autobiography would be well worth a read.

Shadow is hoping to pick up some of his extensive thong collection on eBay later.

It's true. Particularly the Leopard print ones.

I wear them underneath my leathers.

You do need a lot of baby powder though.

And before anyone complains, how is discussing Leopard Print Thongs, baby powder and Leather Trousers disrespectful to the late Peter Stringfellow? It's how he spent his life.

It's what he would have wanted

Couldn't you just launder them?

I'm starting to feel somewhat bilious.

I am not sure it that belongs here or on the health thread

I saw rumours about a week ago, but didn't realise it had been confirmed.

Anthony Bourdain, chef, writer and TV presenter, dead aged 61. Suicide.

I'm shocked and very sad.

Second high profile suicide in a week. Fame is not a panacea.

I can only echo those sentiments.

He wasn't  your archetypal "tv chef".

Thank you for your valuable contribution.

You've praised him a lot on here over a very long period. Must be a massive shock for you.

And reading about him and the reaction to his death from a lot of people it seems there are a great many out there hurting now as well.

His travel/food shows on CNN were very good.  Didn't 'fluff' up places, ate street food as well as 'posher' stuff, and seemed to enjoy himself.

With the best, thats a good bit of PR, though I would say the Bedford team, theres, like, you know, 13 blokes who can get together at the weekend to have a game together, which doesnt point to expansion of the game. Point, yeah go on!

Echo this sentiment. Kitchen Confidential was one of the most eye-opening books I have ever read. The book very much replicated his personality; no ######.

His old friend John Tesar (aka "Jimmy Sears") is on Radio 5 at the moment, talking about Bourdain's life.

I'll probably get struck down by lightning but it amused me.  My son works in one of the fashion retail outlet centres.  He worked in Kate Spade for a while a year ago and now works in Jimmy Choo.  He said to his boss "Kate Spade's dead"   George replied "Yeah I think it's quiet everywhere mate"; "No George, Kate Spade the woman is deceased"

According to Alex Jones, murdered by "them" because he was about to go public about "something". Hillary, Deep State, etc.
