Bedford Roughyed
If we suspend the Premier League then Liverpool can’t win the title.... silver linings.. With the best, thats a good bit of PR, though I would say the Bedford team, theres, like, you know, 13 blokes who can get together at the weekend to have a game together, which doesnt point to expansion of the game. Point, yeah go on!
Dave T
Good to see some leadership and effective communication on SKy and the BBC just now. First we had Nicola Sturgeon giving her latest update, nothing too drastic, but clearly articulating the position and the reasoning, showing calm and control - like a leader should at times like this. And then the BBC had a public Q&A with a Dr Margaret Harris from the WHO, who answered general questions very clearly, without dramatising the answers, again articulating the points and rationale very clearly. Watching these things are in stark contrast to absolute idiots like Trump who are actually meant to be the real leaders in the world. Our work will now go into our 50/50 mode on Monday where we split into 2 teams and only one lot are allowed in the office at any time. Higher risk people are expected to work more from home. ckn
A shopping trip this afternoon before firing into an evening of work on this. Tesco. There was a queue at the bog roll and pasta section as they'd heard there was a delivery due. I was talking to the checkout woman on the way through and she said she keeps having arguments with people with trollies full of restricted items. As I'm a champagne socialist these days, I got some pasta from the fresh section where the shelves were packed full and untouched. I think we're approaching the time when it probably doesn't matter whether it was a cold or Covid: the message appears to be just stay indoors. I don't see the point in testing so much now as if you're clear today you could be nabbed tomorrow. The only people who should be given tests, and regularly too, are the vulnerable: those with compromised immune systems and the elderly. Just my uninformed and untrained opinion obvs! I thought the Chief Medical Officer made a valid point not previously reported anywhere as far as I can see: they don't want to stop the virus completely because we need to build collective immunity. I thought that was an interesting point.

Chrispmartha
Anyway I’m really glad we are taking a science based approach to this, the press conference was very good and very clear on why they are doing what they are doing.

If we successfully isolated, stopped it spreading then got to the summer and relaxed our protections, all it'd need is a carrier from elsewhere to start it off again. ckn
I've just sent a note out to the great & good of our local NHS system telling them that we're now going to remote only for meetings. If they want face-to-face then that's their problem unless they have a compelling reason. As of this evening, we've now no-one planned to be in offices of our core admin team. Our call-centre is now ready to work 100% from home and it's entirely up to them if they do so. Our clinicians can work from home if they have a valid reason, but we still need a clinical presence on site for now. We're moving to roughly 80% of patient appointments being video/teleconference, with the 20% reserved for those clearly in need of face-to-face appointments. No-one will get a face-to-face appointment without a clinician triaging them over the phone first. Your local GPs will probably start doing the same, if you grumble about demanding a face-to-face with your GP and "I'm not telling you, you're a receptionist" then you're going to get nowhere except making a receptionist's life harder when it's not their fault. If you turn up at a GP practice with the newly defined symptoms: - A persistent cough; or - A fever And have not told someone that first, then you're going to put the entire practice at risk of closure. You'll still not get preferential treatment but you will harm those seriously ill enough to justify a face-to-face appointment. Please play nicely. If you don't know what to do, that's 100% fine, call 111, they'll tell you the current advice and what to do next.
