Laws of the game say under knock-on and forward pass: "Heading the ball 4. It is illegal to head the ball in a forward direction."

(Just in case any coaches are thinking of using this as a tactic.)

Yep - I assume the ruling was that this was accidental. Although if it accidentally hits your hands and goes forward, that's still usually a knock-on, so I could argue the other way too.

It is, it was changed to that after Saints scored a try after a playerd deliberatly headed the ball forward over the line.
