Did  not want put in the Toronto topic, but how the hell are they going to compete if Toronto are struggling. Think the RL are smoking funny fags if they think it will happen.

Ottawa is not spending nearly the same amount Toronto has that will make a difference.

If you heard the interview ion SKY with Robert Elstone, Ottawa was referred to as a by line with the RFL decision to allow them into league one. Quite right to say so as well, considering you cannot even travel to / from Canada without a quarantine these days, so how then is a rugby league club supposed to operate ?

Many think sports teams will get a waiver on that soon if there own a charter no quarantine will be needed.

The cost of chartering a transatlantic flight would be prohibitive. A small private jet has the range but only carries a few people. To carry around 25 people, even via a tech stop in Iceland, would need a plane that would burn a huge amount of fuel. A 737 size plane alone burns about 1.8 tonnes an hour when lightly loaded.

Perez has stated clearly that they have a contingency for operating for a full season based in the UK if necessary. Whether anyone believes that or not is irrelevant.

Sport, amongst other things, is a dream-world offering escape from harsh reality and the disturbing prospect of change.

It’s not irrelevant. It will need to be proven that they do actually have this contingency plan should it arise.

Can every club in the RFL prove that their plans for 2021 are sound?

I am saying that he has stated this, in response to the speculation on how can they operate followed by hypothetical costings for aircraft etc.

Does every club have the same issues as Toronto/Ottawa? No.

We are talking about Ottawa. They have already been approved to participate in C1 next season. That places them in exactly the same position as all other C1 clubs, doesn't it?

Under the current circumstances I don’t think that there is more than a handful of clubs in the northern hemisphere, and likely fewer than that, that have truly viable financial plans in the longer term absence of something approaching full capacity crowds and match day revenue.

Its wrong that the other clubs have a vote on whether another club gets to join them.

This should be purely an RFL/SL decision with the RFL having the final say due to it being their remit to look after the wider interests of the sport.

Good luck to the Aces. Everything looks in place. Perez looks to know how to deal with the pandemic (play wise) his vision looks to becoming reality, finally.

Well done Mr Perez. I tip my hat to you.👍

Genuine question - What are the plans?

Are they paying for what they spend?

TWP Mk2 don't need to pay their players yet unless they'd done some really odd deals. Most clubs in League 1 wouldn't start paying until the usual start of pre-season. Let's hope they are not following the Mk1 playbook of this year of signing players when they've got no money.

When they announce signings, and some the players are fulltime already. They must start paying wages. Should imagine the coach is already on fulltime wages now.

The staff would be players much like other sports don't get paid till the season starts.

That is out of line and totally unfounded....the ownership group is solid and has other franchise operations in other sports and has always fulfilled all contractual obligations.

I don't think OSEG is actually an owner of the Aces. Every article I've read was about Eric & Co "working with" OSEG, facilities and marketing etc. Could be wrong though.

The truth is Ottawa need to wave the white flag and leave by the back entrance before they join and end up dying before our eyes.

Removed a LOT of off topic stuff from this thread.

It is about Ottawa Aces ONLY

It is NOT about Toronto Wolfpack. There is already a thread for that.

It is NOT about Covid and the rights/wrongs of lockdown policy. Try the politics sub-forum for that.

Stay on topic.

Thank you.
