DONCASTER CUP MATCH

Pretty heartbreaking that but looking at the positives, it sounds like we scored some great tries and they got 2 from kicks and an interception so given that we had a lot of defending to do that’s not bad. For a new look team against one of the favourites for promotion it augurs well for the season. Let’s hope we can get a result against Dewsbury which will be very difficult.

Gutted for the lads we let them in at the end of both halves and ended up losing, but I think its a good yard stick that we will be in the mix at the top end of the league.

A home draw in the cup would have been nice but hopefully this performance will give the lads confidence for the league games ahead that we need fear nobody. UTT

The race is not always to the swift nor the battle to the strong, but thats the way to bet!

Great advert for league one, either team could have won and it’d be a just result. Just came down to goal kicking in the end.

you guys looked very organised for a team that’s had a fair amount of turn around, I expect you to be an absolute force as the season goes on

Both teams will have a number of first teamers to come back for the proper games so they are anyone guess.

Pretty gutting but overall it looks like we’ve got a very competitive team , and Donny fans always talk their team up so to go there and match up must be positive

Depends which Doncaster forum you are reading.

Cheers Jemmo, as we have had such a turnover in the squad since last season and as most of our new lads are from local community clubs none of us are sure how competitive we will be in the league. Sounds like I missed a good game, pity there was no radio coverage either. Hope you get a good draw in the next round.

Good game to gauge the level of our new squad,  and it sounds like we were very competitive against one of the league favourites, away from home at a ground we seem to always struggle at.

Nice that we are scoring wingers tries, been a while since we did that

Let’s not airbrush history. As a league one team Thorman had us moving the ball really well with Hanley Dawson a ball playing 13 our backs managed plenty of tries

The gulf from league one to championship is immense at least today showed the team assembled can compete in every game

Apart from Sabuety obviously, was there any other stand out performers?

How did elliot Hall go? Gutted when he left

He took everything well at fullback then moved to the wing late on.

If Sabutey gets the ball in space it's a try. The winger who scored the winner must be fast cos Sean chased hard but couldn't get any closer to him.

Great game of rugby league and not spoiled by the ref. They got a lot more possession on our line but the only time they broke us was a fantastic try. Key and Stephenson great again , Matty made some good darts, Simpson made a lovely jinking run  ,Reid and Kirkup had good stints. We've added some real talent from the amateur game when you add Ciaran in there.

Whatever happens this year it should be good to watch.

Just watched the highlights on Dons website, we scored some cracking tries and probably, given the defensive shift we had put in, gave some soft tries. It wasn’t an interception but a little grubber kick thro that Holiday picked up and went the full length. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but taking that last tackle and turning the ball over on their tryline would probably have been enough to win the game. Small margins really, but from a relatively inexperienced team against one of the favourites a really good effort. Looking forward to Dewsbury and seeing what we can do against the favourites for promotion.

So pleased we were competitive away from home against one of the strongest teams in our division. Dewsbury will be another tough one on Sunday but if we give it everything you never know. Heard that Malik and Tom Curwen picked up bad injuries, hope they aren't out too long. Roll on Sunday UTT.

Yeah just watched the highlights and we probably would have nicked it with better game management but that's done now. It could have been worse as the lads at work have said Jonty was threatening to jack in and banned the lads from drinking on the way home because they were so bad!
