I'll say it again, I bring it up every time it's mentioned but I do quite like it (wouldn't work mind)... Align counties to dukes and earls and where they sided... And anyone from Warwickshire changes sides every year

No don't change Warwick side alternatively.....just appoint a Kingmaker to choose each year

We play loads of matches, far too many CLUB matches.  Lancs v Yorks isn’t much more than a club match and will be even more poorly attended than said club matches.  It’s an embarrassment.  The definition of parochial small time.  We need England to somehow jump on the coat tails of the NRL (not IRL) driven international scene down under else we’ll continue to shrink from an already low base.

Can't be worse than playing France before a 2nd tier match, in front of:

Attendance: 4,907

It'll be an improvement and the England coach said it could help prepare to the Ashes.

The perception of the sport is a joke already and regional nonsense like this instead of international matches adds to the joke.  Thankfully it’s not happening in 2025 apparently.

That last one was woeful.....maybe the coverage made it look and sound worse but blimey it seemed very pointless

I don't think Wane was a particularly impressive speaker a couple of times during the series. I thought he was disrespectful to Samoa by talking about the Aussies after Test 1, and was pretty disparaging calling the France games a waste of time.

I'm not sure I've heard another England manager in another sport be so disrespectful.

I'm glad the reaction to the recent years failures of England playing the CNA and France has been to give up altogether rather then trying something new.

I agree.

I hadn't realised that 'None of the above' was even an option. Depressing.

Do we know what option IMG recommended?

Play a match between two teams for which eligibility is determined by which side your local aristocrat in the 14th century picked in a long-running civil war between two families, bearing in mind that many of them changed sides depending on who was winning at the time. That's why we're paying them big bucks.

It's not even that. They weren't Yorkshire and Lancashire, they were the House of York and the House of Lancaster. Most of the Lancastrians were Yorkshiremen.

Makes sense. Richard III was obviously a better candidate for King than Henry VI.

So that means the Lancashire team can pick some yorkshire players?😊

Pages of discussion about what is the best option, good old Super League picking the worst. I know Wayne Bennett didn't get it all his own way but when the clubs let him do some of what he wanted we had the best world cup performance in my lifetime. Shaun Wane isn't as good a coach, and he is being given less rope to work with, it is not looking good.

"However, at an owner's meeting held on Wednesday, it was outlined that the concept should be reevaluated with a view to reintroduce it in 2026. Instead, with a blank weekend in the schedule, it has been decided that a Super League round will be split over two weekends, with three matches taking place on each."

Roses could still return, long live the thread!

Split round, meh...

I can see the logic of focusing all your energies next year on the Ashes. It's been long enough since we hosted one of those, so to bring back the Roses in the same year as bringing back the Ashes, would be asking a lot of the sport's limited ability to promote things.

In 2026 it's a World Cup in Australia, so we'll have more time to focus on what we do here.

That's my positive spin on things, anyway.

Don't see the point of that, just start the season a week later instead.

There is nothing wrong with the concept. The rivalry is as old as SOO or older. But for it to work it would require 3 of the many things the RFL is lacking in.

First is money or lack off. Not just the cash to stage it but the money to make it worth it for clubs and players.

Next is long term commitment, easily the games greatest weakness and always has been.

lastly imagination. The county rivalry is still there but it’s not as obvious as it used to be. It will take a food deal of imaginative marketing to really ignite it. Some of this is down to lack of cash but real creative marketing can be quite cheap.

It will never be SOO but I hate to say that it could easily beat playing France. For years I e hoped that France would live up to their potential but I now fear that they just don’t care

We're headed backwards, then. And not only are we losing an international weekend, we are seemingly further away from a new comp/event to add to the calendar.

I suppose that it's a positive we're not going to a 28-round SL.

Some people just want to watch the world burn.

I never knew there were so many names for bread products until I moved up north.
