Very good presentation. The people on board are experienced in fundraising building stadia etc. I’m feeling optimistic we’re getting a new stadium!2 points

I think that's fair enough. Whenever I have got a new job, I have very rarely brought my uncle into the business with me.2 points

To be honest with my England cap on I wouldn’t be too disappointed if he missed a few games as he seems to be knocking his pan in every week & you worry how much juice he’ll have come World Cup time if he continues that all season.2 points

Rushton scored a very cheeky try for Canberra reserves the other week. He looks like he’s got a great frame for top flight footy as well. Look forward to seeing how he goes2 points

Sorry, GJ, I am being a bit of a tease. the answer is actually Petr Cech, returning to another childhood sporting passion.2 points

Great appointment, exactly the type of coach Leeds needed, everyone he’s ever worked with speaks very highly of him. The Queensland Cup is pretty much Super League standard of players but with perhaps less riding on the outcome, so it’s a logical step-up for him - and you want people on the way up eh.2 points

Watched one of my all time favourites tonight. Casablanca. Pure brilliance.1 point

It’s gonna be a tough journey but I’m happy with the amazing people leading us forward, despite Willie Wilkinson trying his best to score points and put a dampener on the night1 point

Me to Nero, excellent presentation like you say and the people involved seem very knowledgeable to take the project forward.1 point

so rohan smith has no plans to involve tony smith or brian smith? - shame- the 3 smiths could have got morrissey involved and then sang "headingley knows im miserable now "1 point

A lot of fans keep saying they wanted a big coaching name - when was the last time a successful current NRL head coach came over to coach a Super League club?1 point

Happy to agree to disagree, I’ve lived in Australia and seen plenty of NSW and QLD Cup games and reckon it’s Super League standard. You don’t, cool, but it ain’t worth all these words Getting back to the real point, I think several good NRL assistant coach gigs followed by a full leadership role in the State Cup, where you transform a long-term struggler into a title winner, is a really good background for a SL coaching hire. Especially if you’re a club planning for the mid-term rather than an instant bounce, with a great junior player base that needs development. It’s a good strategic hire, rather than the “obvious” big name coach move a club with Leeds’ budget could have made.1 point

I've been to a European Cup semi-final in Finland. Also seen some games at Coventry and Nottingham. All very enjoyable, but I think for people who watch RL (or even soccer), it seems quite unstructured.1 point

Sorry, my mistake. I thought it was a reply but it wasnt, it was just on my feed. Just worked out it was Siosifa Talakai (completely off topic I know) NRL 2022: Siosifa Talakai, highlights, Cronulla Sharks, Morgan Harper, Des Hasler, stats, videos (foxsports.com.au)1 point

I have just gone through the Queensland Cup team lists for this weekend. I watch a fair bit of NRL and these are the names I recognise (although there may well be more who have played NRL) Tyrone Roberts Dunamis Lui Robert Lui Marion Seve Jayden Nikorima Brenko Lee Jordan Pereira Gerard Beale1 point

That's only partially the story. NRL players on minimum contracts $120k (and some much bigger) are playing across the QCup on DR type agreements during the season.1 point

The salary cap of the two competitions means absolutely nothing in terms of what quality there is in the Queensland cup. The standard is better than the championship regardless of the salary cap difference. As stated the talent pool in Australia is way bigger than ours and their second tier players are of a far better quality than ours.1 point

That is some injury. And shows again how tough the sport is that this is a training injury!1 point

You’re ignoring the impact of the NRLs version of dual reg. I’ll say it again, I think Redcliffe Dolphins would beat Wakefield Trinity 9 times out of 10, just by way of one random match-up. The participation pool in Australia is multiple times larger than ours, it follows naturally that their fringe players will be better than our average. There’s just not enough room for them all in the NRL, how much they get paid in a comp with lower revenues isn’t a measure of their relative value or ability as players to ours.1 point

My guess would be A$200 - about £120k If they had gone for Flanagan they would have had to pay maybe 2x or 3x that1 point

Leeds fans weren’t happy when we appointed Tony Smith or Brian McDermott. A lot of fans were happy when we appointed David Furner. Fans often know ###### all.1 point

True . Ancient Stone Age men invented snails to race against each other , even making a little course with hurdles , and they’d place bets . Archaeological evidence has been found of this , including betting slips1 point

You know what mate, I couldn`t agree more. I was a big fan of Williams when he was over here and he was as good as anyone before it all went a bit pear-shaped at the Raiders, if he could hit a bit of form I`d reckon him and Hastings could be a real good combination at the Cup. Hastings seems to be a bloke who wants to pay back people who show a bit of faith in him. A couple of weeks ago when he was out, he requested to travel with the Tigers when they played in Queensland, the club knocked him back saying it would be a bad look if he went and other players who were out didn`t. He got the clubs permission and booked his own flight up there and hired a car to get to the ground where he sat in the box with Maguire, I mean that`s a bloody good sign of someone who is committed. No wonder he said he had a tear in his eye when he saw Maguire celebrating in the box when he kicked that field goal the other night. Imagine if Wane gave him a phone call and showed a bit of interest in him, I`d reckon he`d play out of his skin for you guys if he was made to feel like he was wanted.1 point

Went along to watch Workington afc play on bank holiday Monday in the northern premier league- west division, I think it is classed as 8th tier and to be honest the game wasn't pretty, although 2 great direct free kicks won the day, crowd over 1300 on a day when the NPL had 10 attendances over 1000,anyway barring an unlikely slip up next Saturday from warrington rylands, the reds will be at home in the play offs against any one of Marine, leek town or runcorn linnets1 point

As I say, I appreciate the viewpoint. And if it were more than the 8 or 9 Brits over there including the 3 youngsters then I would share some concerns. But from a purely selfish note, I really enjoy the NRL and watching a Brit in a number of the teams every week adds an extra level to that enjoyment so I am ok with the players over there at these levels.1 point
