Do you miss them?

Recommended Posts

I was disappointed to read on another thread that L'ang has stopped posting.

I always think that it's a shame when people think they can't be bothered with the forum anymore.

There have been some really great posters on here that no longer bother. Paley, Chairman M, I even miss Severus. Not so much on the rugby forums but very much on the any other business threads.

On a happier note I understand that a certain member is back from touring with his band and has gained a new identity whilst he was away!

He's a bit like Dr Who, every now and then he reinvents himself!

Good sorts all of them. The ones I like most are those you can disagree with without seriously falling out with. Difference, debate and discussion is something to be enjoyed.

The ones listed above were all worth reading (most of the time), but people move on. That's life.

Tiny Tim and Shadow have also been quiet of late. Bob8 doesn't seem to hang out as often as he did either.

People will drop in and out of the forum I guess. People have real lives to lead as well (though not all of them involve touring, with a band).

On those who came on here as union people but ended up as part of the rugby league family:

Mick (Chairman M) walked away after getting persistent abuse from the terminally thick ones who can't understand that people can have different likes while still enjoying similar pastimes.

Severus hasn't been seen for a while.  Probably much the same reason.

Then there was JWAD.  Another good guy who probably did more for rugby league than many on here yet was persistently abused until he also walked.

Sometimes I really want to just lock the cross-code forum.

On those who are rugby league folk who aren't here:

Unfortunately Paley just learned not to like the rules of the forum.  It's a free country.  His choice.  I would be happy to see him back though.

Chris (l'angelo) is currently banned.  He's not off here by his choice, or, to be precise, he is off here by his choice as he'd had more warnings than most of the forum members put together.  FFS Chris, just listen when we ask you to stay off the Fev threads.

Steve May was another one who I thought added huge amounts of value but has walked away.  Again, people's lives change and it is their choice.

I could go on.

Then there are the other posters I know who were getting on a bit who haven't posted for a while.  I hope they're in good health.

That certain member who has resurrected himself will get banned on sight if John sees him.  Banned on sight and all posts deleted.  His choice if he wants to spend time typing things that will be deleted.

But then we've had a good few decent new posters join the family in the last year or so.

Plenty of good folks, and many who came here from Rugby Union. Membership of TRL (as far as I know) does not lapse with time, and maybe some will either return for a long stint or just drop in on occasion.

If we are to have a roll call - on the side of the Saints:

Mad Dai from Ponty

Psychedelic Springbok

...are a couple who come to mind straight away.

And, from the theatre of low comedy:

Clive Woody (who could be very funny, even if he did constantly take pot-shots where he thought it would hurt most).

Thoth (Extremely good taste in music, regrettable taste in sport).

Mike the alleged American, aka "The Bitchslapper" (can't remember his surname).

League "I'm not from Chorley, honest" Freak, now disappearing down his own vortex of self-regard.

And the guy who wished leprosy on all of us. Someone will remember his name - possibly himself. Probably no-one else.

Oh, I forgot "Je Jerry", who claimed to be resident in Australia, New Zealand and every single Polynesian island simultaneously. But after all his travels, he never discovered a sense of humour.

I used like the way Hannible I think one of his names were then did he become Homer ? The way he used to deal with Northern Exposure N E ,but that was a few years ago and things have tightened up on here since. Also Mick Gledhill seems more interested in Night clubs these days than RL and Bulls

Chairman M is I'm sure ,still a decent sort. Met him a couple of times...at least once on licences premises on his home territory.

MIAG, too.

Things change, though. Life changes, jobs change, circumstances change.

In addition, it does need a certain amount of self control to avoid reacting to certain trigger words, trigger names and trigger topics. One day, I'll learn how.

I miss larry

Me too. I've never understood why he wound so many people up; I never saw anything particularly provocative or malicious in his posts. When he did have a go at people it always came across, to me at least, as tongue in cheek.

Yup. He didn't 'target' people... and had a decent sense of humour...

As you say, when he did find himself at odds it was rarely, if ever, provocative.

He took the "p" out of everyone especially the bigoted and pompous. I was often the target of his humour and probably because I'm thick it made me laugh.

I look forward to his Renaissance.

Also Mick Gledhill seems more interested in Night clubs these days than RL and Bulls

Following his twitter, I think it's the other way around, where he's massively involved with RL – I think he does a lot of media stuff nowadays believe it or not – think he commentates on community stations, but I’m not 100% on that and I think he ran the official Bulls twitter feed for a while – I’ve certainly seen him at Odsal with a media pass on a couple of times last season. I wonder if someone told him to stay off the forums if he’s doing more “official” stuff like that. Certainly seems like he has calmed down, which is good as his heart is in the right place but he used to be so easy to wind up. Still very occasionally posts on RLFans I think.

Talking of blasts from the past – I do miss Daza XIII (one Z never two!) who used to run the Stupid Questions League. Hope he’s OK, he said he was taking a seasons break from running that comp and then never came back. His and MIAG’s running of that comp was charmingly incompetent.

I won't name him but after he made a comment about my wife's ethnic background I warned him that RL is a small world and we were highly likely to meet one day

I remember there used to be some proper ding dongs on here before the mods cracked down a bit. Simac67 and others getting stuck in big time. Lol how different it was.
