While I'm on it, I'm no fan of the Queen, she intrudes into politics far too much for my liking, the recent "leaks" from Buck Palace, about how she's been unhappy about certain things our democratically elected Prime Minister has been doing and how the democratically elected Leader of the Opposition has used a Parliamentary procedure that invokes her name, are out of order.

On your second point, about the procedure, according to the BBC at the time Labour invoked it, she is actually entitled to comment upon it.  It's probably about the only bit of parliamentary business she is allowed to comment upon.

If and when it does, that's when you had better learn how to be sycophantic.

After all, you can say what you like about the British royal family and you need never feel in any danger.

Do the same thing in some Republics that I assume you might approve of, for example Cuba, and you would soon find that the state would be breathing down your neck.

Of the 52 Commonwealth countries, there are 16 that still have the Queen as Head of State.

My bet, as a broad generalisation, is that you would much rather live in the majority of those 16 countries than in most of those that don't have her as Head of State.

Malaysia is a reasonably democratic country and doesn't t have the Queen as head of state. It s not perfect but where is?

Look at it this way, it's less than 100 years since a King had to abdicate because he wanted to marry an American divorcee.

When did the law change saying that a senior member of the royal family could not marry a divorced person? Also she went to a catholic school. Years ago the same ban applied to Catholics? When did this ban be abolished?

The divorce thing is not really law, and more CofE theology and practice - and they removed the restriction on divorcees remarrying in a CofE church a few years ago.

I believe that Catholics can still not legally be monarch, but the spouse of a monarch (or spouse of another member of the royal family) can be Catholic. Happily and just in case, the BBC have today unearthed the news that Harry's intended is in fact Protestant (we await, all agog, to discover whether she is of the Calvanist, Baptist or Lutheran persausion) and will be baptised/ confirmed as such before the big day.

It's not a question of coming down to earth, Mr Duxbury. Some of us, Mr Duxbury, belong in the stars.

The Church of England was created to allow a monarch to divorce

Indeed. We left the dark ages in 2013 when Nick Clegg got the "Succession to the Crown Act" through parliament, which meant that those in line to the throne could marry Catholics (and no longer needed the monarch's permission to marry.) The monarch still has to be a protestant obvs.

This didn't take effect until 2015 because some countries (step forward the Aussies) took a bit longer to get the relevant legislation passed.

You don't have to be a Catholic to go to a Catholic school
