GUBRATS
Following on from last Sunday's Top Gear , what was your dad's ' car ' , not necessarily his first , but just the one , the ' car ' that was the one you most remember being in most of allĀ My dad's first was a Morris Oxford , the late fifties early sixties one , but ' his ' car was an Anglia estate , he had it for about 6 years from 69 till 75 when we emigrated to NZ , most Friday nights during that time meant load up the car and drive the 70 miles to Sedbergh up near Kendal , where we had a caravan on a site within fishing rod casting into a tributary of the river Lune , on Sunday nights we had to climb the 7 in 1 gradient hill on the way back to the M6 sometimes five up with my nan in the car with us , the huge 997 pre cross flow engine struggling to the point sometimes my brother and I would have to jump out and walk up the last 100 yards of that hillĀ It was two tone grey , funnily enough that particular body type now is worth a fortune , much more than the hundred odd quid my dad paid for it back thenĀ
gittinsfan
My dad never had a car or even learnt to drive. When I was 17 he put me through my test and bought me an Austin A40 which I suppose was really his first car.He did this partly so I could take him to and from work, especially on late shifts. He was getting too old to use the bike too much. This was great because he also paid for much of the petrol, and also occasionally a pint on the way home. I wish I had kept the reg number for that A40,it would be worth a few bob to someone now.Ā KHD4. Thanks Gubrats,it was a long time ago but this has brought back some happy memories. CanaBull
The first car I remember rolling around in the back of as a kid was Dad's (74 I believe looking at pictures) Mini Clubman Estate in the worst 70's brown colour.Ā MeĀ and my brother got yelled at in that all the way down to Cornwall.Ā Dad followed that up with a sterling upgrade to a Morris Marina. tim2
By the way, that segment where the presenters spoke about their dads (and Chris Harris's mum) shows why they are better than the Clarkson-led trio, even though the show is essentially the same.Ā "I am the avenging angel; I come with wings unfurled, I come with claws extended from halfway round the world. I am the God Almighty, I am the howling wind. I care not for your family; I care not for your kin. I come in search of terror, though terror is my own; I come in search of vengeance for crimes and crimes unknown. I care not for your children, I care not for your wives, I care not for your country, I care not for your lives." - (c) Jim Boyes - "The Avenging Angel"

Bleep1673
My Dad never had a car either, I was the first to own a car. A Mk III Cortina, which I hated, but was bought by my Dad. My Favourite was a MkII Escort 1.6L, S Suffix, that was incredible. I Once drove 9 people from Manchester Centre, back to Hope Hospital (Where they were living) after a night out, in 1988. Same with me, I'd stopped watching it for the last few series of the Clarkson era because they'd started to do my head in and didn't bother with the Evans or Le Blanc ones but caught one of the new ones on Dave (there was nothing particularly on and thought I'd just give it a go) and really enjoyed it. I think it was the Nepal one. Big fan of the new lineup.Ā

As she used to go from London to Edinburgh (for the Festival) each year, she soon worked out a route which didn't have any hills too steep for the little motor. The first family car I remember was hers too; a Bubble Car, one with the only door being the entire front of the vehicle. Ā Can't beat a bench seat and a column change , back in NZ the streets were full of Zephyrs and Zodiacs and of course the Holden's, PA and PB Vauxhall's , we'd often see a MK1 or 2 Zephyr with various different coloured doors and wings , quite often missing a bonnet or boot , full of the locals in them , " Maori Mustangs " was the general term for them
