With the match review panel doing what it does, what's the point of stopping the game to place things like that on report any more?

If he leaves the field injured it counts as an interchange. If he leaves the field due to the incident being placed on report it is a free interchange.

Useless trivia. The first RL match I attended as a kid was HKR v Wigan in the late 40's at the old Craven Park. From the commentators side I could see the lights of houses in the street where I lived from age 2 - 21.

He’s an absolute shocker.  See the locked thread “JJB” where I raised this, unfortunately Jughead (this week’s username) derailed it but the main points still stand.  Completely poor look for the game.

I think he did well yesterday in the studio and looked comfortable. But I don't think he is suitable for the interviewing, which is a specialist role and one where vocal skills are usually required.

Jenna is educated, articulate and speaks very clearly. She is very difficult to replace.

I'm sure he's a nice guy and knowledgeable about the game, but honestly, he shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a microphone.

Yet he's in demand as an after dinner speaker it seems.

I don't understand it either.

Pleased with that performance. I did expect Hull KR to be a lot better but maybe there was some early season rustiness from them. I said before the game I expect Wigan to start slow and gradually improve and I think that performance fits the bill. We didn't score from a well worked passing move until late in the game, so I'm not going to suggest we've been revolutionised and turned into entertainers all of a sudden. Two tries were absolute gifts that we didn't really deserve, one from a cheeky kick direct from a scrum and another from a very good but risky offload from deep. In terms of what we did with ball in hand trying to break them down I thought we got better as the game went on. Some of the little half breaks or moments that didn't quite come off gave me more cause for optimism than the tries we scored.

The final try showed some changes in our attack. Leuluai hiding behind the play and then joining in at second receiver is something that I don't think ever happened last year. Tommy was pretty much always first receiver and it was very predictable. I was critical of him last season and dubious about his decision to carry on but I thought he was impressive last night, and boy does he make defending look fun.

Mago was a handful and hopefully will continue to get better as he gets more games under his belt. Liam Byrne also had a decent game and is a player who needs to have a big year. Ellis was quiet but solid. The only player who had a poor game really was Brad Singleton, which is a shame, because to compete with the big boys we need him to push on from journeyman prop to someone who is a pack leader.

Field was fantastic (except his goalkicking - I mean he didn't even look like he was striking the ball properly) and it's great to have such a pacey and elusive player at fullback. Dealt well with kicks which was one question mark over him pre-game. All of the backline did well, particularly Pearce-Paul at centre. While he didn't get much of a chance to create he was solid as a rock defensively against a very experienced opposite number.

All in all I think it's a solid foundation to work on. The win will be a confidence boost, the tries show that the players should be willing to take chances and the defence was fairly solid bar a couple of soft tries.

I do worry that Rovers might be one of those teams that has a really good season and then for whatever reason can't sustain it the next. I liked their style of play last year and also their ambition in signings. We need clubs from outside the traditional top 4 to gain strength and then stay strong for a number of years.

I was confident going in to the game that we’d go well. I think it was a different sort of performance to what I was expecting and there’s plenty to improve on but it was a good start. We fed off the HKR errors and when you have pace in your side via the likes of Marshall and Field you can do that sometimes. We’ll get better and as I’ve banged on about for the last few days on here, I’m convinced we’ll have a pretty good season.

On a separate note, James Child still only has the ability to referee one side. It can be the home or away team but you know in each game you watch him officiate that one of the sides is getting battered.

I'm sure I can generate a stat that shows a link between ginger-haired players and success (I don't if that would be + or -)*...

*Probably negative...

Why negative?

I assume people from West Yorkshire can understand him, but for the rest of us, it's on a par with Rab C Nesbitt at times.  It's a shame because he's obviously interesting and funny and really could be a great RL media figure. Is there still such a thing as elocution lessons 🙂 ?

Stats.

Ginger is the least prevalent hair colour.

Historically, the majority of players winning, let's say the SL GF, will NOT have ginger hair.

Ergo, statistically, teams with a higher number of ginger-haired players, are LESS LIKELY to win a SL GF.

Stats.

I'm from WY, and I struggle with him.

It does seem like he's had some kind of "work", or some kind of issue with his mouth, on current performance.

Maybe it's a short-term thing?
