No double headers in 2023

The healthy attendances argument is a myth too. The 2nd Easter games are always poorly attended and fares really badly compared to the first game and a derby for most clubs. It always just seems like an afterthought that no one cares about.

There really should have been no double headers and fewer games this year with the World Cup coming up . Having one now at the end of a long season , with the World Cup coming up , is doubly stupid

Doing it less than 50 days before the start of the World Cup is crazy.

Especially when you consider that 2020 was backloaded through Covid, we had a short turnaround into 2021 with a World Cup in mind and then decided that a 27 game season with two double headers, one of which is at the end of the season, was a good idea. I fully expect an early February start in 2023 because I don’t trust those in power in the game.

I’m still not keen on a 27 round season and a schedule for 2023 longer than this year, especially with a handful of international scheduled for the end of next year.

Nailed on to be Carter and/or Pearson.

Or maybe Derek when he sees Leigh vs Catalans on the fixture list

That’ll be something about the French teams bringing no away fans and nobody buying pies.

Why are we now calling the bank holiday / easter weekend programme double headers?

I will put money on it that Leeds and Wigan get one.

Wigan will get a home game on Good Friday next year. It’s their turn to host the Derby, as it alternates and Saints hosted them this year.

Given Catalan is the usual Easter fayre for Salford, I imagine not.

Probably Wires away if only one Easter game for the Reds.

As for Leigh, personally a little of me is sailing against that assumption (only a little bit)

So how about the Big Easter derby being Batley v Leeds.😄

Wigan game v Catalans has now been moved to next Friday due to Sky. Therefore now Wigan are playing 3 games in 8 days which is ridiculous, especially with the World Cup coming up.

I agree with the ridiculous comment... I know Sky are important and invest in the sport for TV rights but the RFL/SL should have clauses in their to prevent this type of situation for a club.

I can well guess that Wigan probably have no need to have their full first team squad play plus maybe also Catalan.

Even then if the clubs rotate the squad you won't so keen to pay to watch at a stadium if the answer is playing the reserves.

With injuries, discipline bans and sky/SL fixture forcing clubs to squeeze in games is it any wonder that we ain't seeing the best of RL/SL here.

I suspect it's because nobody can think of anything catchy to call them. I think the only double headers (for the men) this year have been in the CC and they will be around again next year.

I’ll be disappointed if we don’t have the Easter weekend scheduled like this; one game Thursday night, the Hull FC v KR game and the Derby on Good Friday, a game on Saturday, a game on Sunday and a game on Easter Monday.

Carter fuming that he’ll miss out on £723 bar receipts from the loop fixture.  That’s a month’s pay for a wakey top 30 player.

Wigan squad for tomorrow. Just look at the squad numbers. Things like 2 fixtures in 3 days, play offs and loop fixtures just means that Super League has too many meaningless games that dont excite fans:

Saints’ 21 man squad includes five potential debutants and squad numbers go into the 40’s. What a woeful idea these rounds are. It’s only been said for the best part of 25 years.

What about Zaphod Beeblebrox, I wonder what they might have to say about this?

At this point, before the term gets misued again, i think its worth pointing ou that there have never been any double headers in Rugby League, ever; nor will there ever be, for a double header is "two games between the same teams played in the same place on the same day"

Just sayin'

No. A double-header is a train pulled by two locomotives.

Words can only ever mean one thing.
