RLWC Attendance-O-Meter

To be fair - those seats sold at SJP. I had early bird £85 seats and when I got another a few months later it was £110.

So if there is an issue in London - it might not be price related.

Although I accept that casual fans might be more price conscious at those levels.

There were actually only a small number of £110 tickets at SJP, a lot were reduced to £85 and £70. And as you say, some of the £110 were sold at £85 under early bird.

I'm not familiar with Emirates capacities tbh to know whether there are more for that game. But a London event crowd should be more open to those prices in any case.

One thing that's come out of this thread and on socials is that a lot of people left buying tickets very late and in some cases missed out on the cheaper tickets. They've been on sale for 2 years!

Has anyone missed out on cheaper tickets?

Now, has anything else been happening over the last couple of years?

I don't disagree with what your saying about the expensive tickets but even the cheaper standing ones didn't get anywhere near selling out.  If the rest of the ground was a sell out then you can understand it was ticket prices that kept the crowd down but there were plenty of cheap tickets that also didn't sell

The “cheap” tickets were £25 for standing.

What’s wrong with £50 say for middle of the stand, £25 for the edges and £20 or less for standing.

The whole pricing structure is just odd.

I heard comment on 5 Live tonight about getting a ticket for women’s PL football for £10 and they have the weight of the summer success behind them.

Wouldn’t it appear more successful as a comp to prioritise attendance figures. They seem to have accepted they will not need to promote crowd numbers and instead maximise income on the minimum expected attendances.

They chose the 2nd path, because we now have the richness of data to do so, and the technological agility to be able to re-categorise sections. This is why up until close to the tournament they were selling tickets by price and general area, rather than by block, and are even now only selling by block rather than row/seat. They’ve planned for this scenario, for years.

...

Not quite. They've offered block options for absolutely ages.

And some people will definitely have bought tickets early in a block that they wouldn't have chosen before the recategorisation.

On pricing strategy, opinions are like @rs"holes, everyone's got one. I think they've got the pricing strategy wrong in parts, and Mick Hogan has pretty much admitted as much. But the strategy has been set and it is now too late to change it, without discounting - which would be an even bigger mistake. I'm cool with constructive criticism, I've been doing it both here and directly, but surely there's a line eh.

Sorry I do disagree with you on this . The RLWC has paid events professionals to put on an event . It is completely within a paying customer or supporters or for that matter based on the grant money Tax Payer rights to ask question of the paid leadership. This is a one shot thing , Can you imagine football , RU or athletics supporters accepting what’s happened with a shrug of the shoulder . For me we are beyond the constructive criticism stage we are now at the who’s ultimately responsible stage . Regarding the pricing strategy any organisation or event would be able to ascertain from pre sales the demand . Assuming all the NZ v Lebanon crowd were sold pre tournament you would still be thinking S£&t!!!!! . They have had plenty of time and opportunity to get this right .

I expect the ticket income was substantially higher, although a lot of people there still paid £15-25, many of the expensive seats just stayed empty.

Probably the challenge on getting the balance right is still creating a good bustling event. It was just about that last night, but when I compare to 2013's games at the Halliwell Jones, the atmosphere, look and feel of the event was way down due to only being at around 55% capacity.

Last night was very enjoyable, but didn't have the exciting vibrancy of a must-see event.

Its probably the difference between staging 6 out of 10 events instead of 8's and 9's last time. But of course the financial are important here.

Got to weigh up the slight increase in income Vs the damage to the event and sport by having so many empty seats on TV

For me the 2013 model is far better

2013 was hidden away on Premier.

No one saw it.

Im not saying its an excuse, but it’s a factor.

More people will see the games in this WC

Good point , however I think there is a broad agreement that attendances have been very disappointing. We were let to believe by the organisers that ticket sales were going through the roof. The feedback I get from my non RL friends all focus on the lack of fans and poor atmosphere for an international at the matches they are seeing in TV , it’s not showcasing the event as it should .

Yes there was early bird prices and some games have also sold out of the cheaper tickets.

The tickets were sold online and people had plenty of time to buy them.

Yup, and they “upgraded” people in that situation - so they will still be in a £50 block if they bought a £50 ticket

Apparently this site says I "won the day" here on 23rd Jan, 19th Jan, 9th Jan also 13th December, whatever any of that means. Anyway, 4 times in a few weeks? The forum must be going to the dogs - you people need to seriously up your game. Where's Dutoni when you need him?

I’m not sure what you’re disagreeing with me about? I’ve said criticism is fine. I’ve criticised the ticket pricing. It’s on here. I’ve said it to them directly. But saying the organisers are lying to us, or gaslighting us, is frankly just a proper weird mindset.
