Rugby League Bucket List. How Many Have You Done?

Recommended Posts

It was OK until they claimed that a barm cake and a tea cake were the same thing, and that the latter is what they are called east of the Pennines.

This should now become a pile-on thread!

Sport, amongst other things, is a dream-world offering escape from harsh reality and the disturbing prospect of change.

Playing Rugby in Oldham should be one. Obviously watching a game at Watersheddings is no longer possible.

Unless you have done either of those you don't know what cold really is.

Long Stand at Crown Flatt in January with a westerly squall took a bit of beating.

Munching on a bread cake, of course!

Moan about final attendances but make no attempt at going anyway.

Claim referees are bent against your team and/or claim referees are bent and decide who wins Super League.

Complain that [insert expansion club name here] have received loads of money from The RFL.

Complain that the structure is rubbish but suggest a structure we’ve had before that you also thought was rubbish at the time.

Want to be passport control when there’s any talk of international rugby league. A Scottish Grandmother?! If their blood isn’t 50% Irn Bru and 50% haggis, they shouldn’t be allowed to represent Scotland.

Moan that the game has gone soft after a player has been on the receiving end of a high tackle that would be penalised in any era.

Complain that we’ll never beat Australia because we have Australian players playing the game here.

Complain that we need a new winner of Super League because “it’ll be good for the sport”.

I think the above is a truer bucket list for fans of the game.

Its a good list and I've done quite a few....the stand out ones were attending the PNG v Wales game in RLWC2017, as probably the only independent travelling Wales fan, ans singing Abide With Me on the pitch in 2016 as a member of the 32-strong Fans Choir selected for the occasion.

And yes, please do try Wheelchair Rugby League an absolutely fantastic.....you may even meet some Welsh, Scottish and Irish internationals as well as the English ones!

I added another one to my bucket list this year and got capped for Wales Masters RL against England and Ireland!

Russia v Georgia at the Olympic Stadium in Moscow (I think it was around October 2006) actually was quite a good game very sad about what has happend in Russia and to Russian RL that showed so much promise when it was run by Ahmet from Tatarstan who owned a casino at the time (Closed by Putin along with all of the casinos in Moscow) actually bumped into him a few years ago whilst ski-ing with my wife in Andorra its a small world:)

On another note I will be celebrating my 5000 rugby league game at Warrington Wolves v Leeds Rhinos on February 16th and Catalans v Leigh Centurions on February 25th,to be honest it could be anything between i estimate 4700 and 5200 but decided i would choose one game in England and 1 in France to celebrate.

Have included Super League/Championship/Old championships/Internationals/French Elite 1 and 2/NRL i managed to rack up a serious number of matches in France over a 10 year period (A min of 3 matches a week sometimes 4/5 if kick off times and distance worked out) This year already looking good will be going to Warrington for the opener following day Wakefield Trinity v Dragons then Hull KR on the Saturday v Wigan and finally Hull FC on the Sunday so off to a good start:)

My wife says i need a brain transplant:)hopefully i can keep this up for another 12/15 years before the grim reaper calls:(

I'll see your Oldham and raise it with watching (or preferably playing in) an away game against Queens.

Here's an extra one for the RL extreme-living fan - get arrested for playing/promoting TGG in any foreign country where the Other Lot have a cozy "understanding" with the state.

10 of the 20 listed.

The list wasn’t flooded with Aussie experiences, hardly surprising for a Brit paper.

The article prompts me to consider a new thread.
