I think all the pieces are there for us to do ok, big props, hardworking props, multiple young backrowers , some talent in the backs . Just need to see if the "spine" can put it all together to create chances and therefore tries, something that was lacking last year and is often lacking in Town teams.

Who was your best three ? I'd go for Bickerdike, Steele and Sabutey (promise of more to come).

Burns at fullback, head and shoulders above rest, Key and McNicholas went well as did Kirkup I thought.

Need more options from halves though, no threat to haven defence at all

Bookies heavily tipping  Haven for the drop this season so no reason we can't give it a good go.  Looking forward to seeing a fairly new look Town side under a new coach. UTT

You really are a bitter person, every post with you is about opposition are getting relagated. Can't you just enjoy a game, it's only preseason, why not commend both teams on their first hit out with new squad players and trialist and maybe say hope to see you in the championship soon. Good luck etc?

bookies have tipped Whitehaven for the drop pretty much every season since they got promoted and they've consistently defied the odds, so no reason why they can't do the same again, as Jonty seems to know how to get the best out of his players.

I wouldn't be surprised if we have 2 or 3 new faces in by the time the league action starts

Subutey, possibly Blaine

Not sure about Blaine Brookie and did not see or read anything about subutey playing in the halves, but he played well on the wing and looks sharp. I have to give credit to young Bishop for Haven who led his team around the park, now he would do or someone to lead Town around the park. UTT 🏉🏉🏉

I thought Subutey was a centre/stand off

Looking at our squad list , and there’s some players I’m not familiar with , who are our specialist halfback options outside Forber and Walker ?

Fergus Simpson (I think) came on for Walker second half yesterday. Can’t just go off that 25/30 min spell but I guess that would be the third option, although maybe not specialist.

With ten minutes to 3 the queue was away past the miners club, heard a haven supporter say never seen this for years. Then they said anybody with right money could get in by the main gate(not turnstiles)so was rush i know quiet a few got in for nothing so they wont be counted in attendance. As to match was a good workout, ones that stood out were burns  at fb. Hurst looks solid, subutey looks fast. Couldnt fault any lads for first run out.

I think we have to do the best we can with the players we have, would like to try some players in different positions, burns,Henson marwood could play half back when we need a change, also Barnes  into prop mabe.

Also play subutey at full back or center so he can get more running opportunities, that's what the club have brought him in to do.

We’ve had 1 pre season game which was also the coach’s first chance to see his squad in a competitive game. Coupled with the fact it was the first game in town colours for quite a few and the first semi pro game for a few think it’s a bit early to be panicking and looking to move players out of position. In my view one of Thormans big mistakes was moving Matty to stand off in the latter part of last season. You take away a serious threat from acting half. Not too sure moving Caine to prop would be ideal given that on his day he could be one of the best running second rows in the division. While you can’t read too much into you tube, Sabutey looked good whether he was at full back, wing or centre, hopefully he’ll get a chance in the centres because that was where he looked particularly impressive on those clips.

We are where we are, it’s been a complete rebuild with the emphasis on local young players, I’m not going into the season with high expectations given the level of experience in some of the other sides, but hopefully we have a squad that will develop and improve as the season goes on. In Muzzas radio interview he talked about the appeal of having the opportunity to rebuild the team over his 2 year contact, let’s just see where it takes us.

No panic, but I think players would be better suited in different positions, something the last coach should have done.

You've got me scratching my head with a couple of those pal. What do you gain against what you would lose moving Caine to Prop & Matty into the halves? Caines strength is exploiting the edges, what do you gain by having him play at prop? Mattys is sniping around the ruck exploiting gaps on retreating defensive lines. What do you think he more suited in the halves doing?

Not having a dig as I can see why you would mention Blaine because of his speed and backing up in the halves. Just interested to hear why you would move the others who play very well in the positions that they are in.

The race is not always to the swift nor the battle to the strong, but thats the way to bet!

Chris Thorman tried Matty in halves but it didn't work for mine he hasnt the pace and no way is Caine a middle, Thorman used him as middle runner at times and he was wasted, totally agree with you, his strengths lie in angled runs, preferably outside in

He could also do with some better sharper service rather than a half just throwing a ball at him to smash into defenders
