You have never seen the 'press' that plays RL down at any opportunity it has?

What do you reckon joe public thinks of IMG in RL, most fans on the terraces don't know of them, if they can't even bowl their own trumpet they are never going to do it.

I see the trade press but, and can't stress this enough, outside in the national consciousness we don't really exist..  look at all the threads about lack of coverage on here etc.. we don't make a dent.

IMG don't need to be known... why does everyone need to know who they are? That will not improve anything, it's what they do that's important not whether everyone knows it's them doing it, that's just vanity.. profit, profile of the sport is what is important not the profile of IMG that's utterly irrelevant... no matter how many times you use this "punters on the terraces" argument it doesn't make it any more relevant to the success or failure of IMG or RL as a whole.

It is now being reported that IMG want to bring back the Roses match so please remove any and all memories you may have of me being supportive of their involvement in any way.

Club sustainability and competitiveness is  all that matters so if a bloke guarantees millions per season until Broncos are sustainable then go for it, but from a long term base

If Leigh did go down under this system, I wonder what the press would make of it not in a Rugby League sense but a sporting sense. Leigh a club who last season won one of the games prestigious events, a club who in the last two seasons has increased its support base from less that 3000 to over 8,000 average and still with 3 home games to go could have 3 maximum crowds, a club who have most likely finished in the top half of the league ladder, a club who does the 'sought after' matchday expierence better if not the best of the all the clubs.

But in this IMG system sporting prowess comes secondary to keyboard inputs and spreadsheet tables.

Harry- stop fretting Leigh are an A* as every box we could tick we have

No offence Harry but the media literally do not give a stuff about Leigh Leopards and which League they play in.

That’s not a dig they wouldn’t give two hoots about most clubs, if not all.

I understand that Chris, but it is the system I alluded to.

I am not fretting Sweaty, it was originally an answer to a couple of posters who said it would be fun if Leigh did not make it.

Are No6 fags still around? They could get them to sponsor an additional cup tournament!

What about Slalom Lager, they could  chip in a few bob.

Just come back from south africa... they still had carling black label so I'm sure we can find slalom somewhere!!!

(For anyone wondering, it was still god awful, I had to have one but wish I hadn't!)

For beer we could do with say a Merit Table competition and get such as Mackeson to sponsor it. Now that would be cutting edge and turn heads!

I think it's been reported that someone has said that IMG are maybe thinking  about asking the clubs if they want it.

From Matt Shaw in a Leeds paper. "An early proposal Rugby League Live has learned of would have seen both the War of the Roses and the mid-season Test series take place, but it's thought that clubs aware of the plan were reluctant to add more games to the calendar or sacrifice a home game to make it happen."

I know the negative stories often get wider coverage than the regular coverage. Failed drugs tests always get reported on the BBC even at third tier level (twice, once for the test, and again for the final decision) betting irregularity made the back pages of newspapers which usually have no coverage, if the sport starts tearing itself apart I reckon someone would pick up the story, but I don't think it is a likely outcome.

I see Mikey Lewis has been on SS Golf today.

For the sport it's not just about being out there. It's about being out there in front of the right people.

Quite right, it's isn't a good look at all for the RFL President to be criticising the direction and way forward that the RFL have chosen. Its all very RL though:

love Rugby leagues interpretation of what he said is rubbish. Yes he criticised IMG and he supports P and R. He's does not call for it to return. He says it should not be about money in the bank but then wants us to put money into the French bank account.

But then he doesn't like Cats. Prefers Oldham.

He makes it clear it's his own private and personal opinion

Reads like he's had too much hospitality courtesy of the flat-cap claque.

It's shame that he's chosen to voice his admittedly personal opinion now.  Kind of spoils his record given all that he's done for the sport during his tenure up to now.  For example, he's done..er....er...er...then there was er..er..er......and if course there was er...er..er...

I wouldn't be expecting huge things from any RFL President. I would though expect expect them to be an ambassador for the game and to talk it up. In particular I would expect them to talk about how it is poised to grow and develop in the future due to the direction the RFL and its clubs have chosen.
