We already play too many games.   We bring in rules to restrict players' time on the field and then increase the number of league games we play.  We don't need more games and especially not for the best players.

It was quite good having the Challenge Cup, Premiership,John Player Trophy,Yorkshire Cup and Lancashire Cup all on the BBC.

Rugby Union the only game in the world were the spectators handle the ball more than the players.

Bit rich coming from someone proposing an eight team regional championship.

For the fans, yes.

For the players, no.

In today's world, impossible.

I'd award the county cup for Yorkshire and Lancashire to the clubs that finish highest in the regular season from those areas.

We had the Lancashire and Yorkshire leagues for that.

Slightly off topic, but are the Aussies missing a trick by playing their State of Origin on a Wednesday instead of a Saturday?

Would they not have a better chance of getting a global audience if they moved it?

I just looked up the dates, but it's 1105am on three Wednesdays, so I didn't bother adding it to my calendar. Whereas I would definitely watch it if it was on a Saturday.

I'm sure they have their own reasons, but I wonder if in future they'll consider playing it at the weekend.

The reasons will be so that players can 'choose' to rejoin and play for thier clubs at the weekend ....and also to allow weekend NRL to continue?

The sooner they move it to three consecutive Saturdays the better. Which would give the rest of us an international window.

What’s that got to do with me calling you out for what you were being?

Ah - you were calling me out for criticising your cunning plan, were you?

I'll mark you down as a snowflake.

Don’t be a troll. I don’t want to derail a thread so I’ll leave it there

You do that.

It's OK for you to be abusive but you don't like it turned around.

So are we decided and it’s going ahead?

The alternative for this year is confirmed, once that happens I'm sure there will be more takers.

In the absence of those however, I think a nice nod to the past would be some sort of award like this.

Its where having a strong regional body would have helped as they would be the ones awarding it via the RFL.

If it was going to be a success we would still have it now. In Australia people may be able to put their club loyalties aside for those three nights when State Of Origin is on but over here Yorkshire vs Lancashire will always be very much second to clubs.
