Will this rearranged fixture help end loop fixtures?

Recommended Posts

Now Wigan have reached Wembley this means the only weekend available for the round 2 fixture Wigan v Leigh to be played is the international weekend starting Friday June 28. If that is to be the day it is played we would then have it repeated by way of the loop match between the 2 clubs on the same ground again on Friday July 5th!!

The absurdity of loop fixtures will be emphasised this weekend when Warrington will have played Catalans 3 times before not having played Wigan once.

I don't really see what it has to do with loop fixtures per se. The reason this game wasn't played was due to Wigan being in the WCC.

It helps to emphasise the the overplaying the same teams in the season.

Loop fixtures are fine, some people are very vocal about not liking them, but they regularly attract decent crowds so most people are not bothered in a negative way by seeing a game between the same sides more than once a season.Ā

Everyone know the absurdity but the powers that be don't care and the clubs want the money. The only way it will stop is when we go to 14 teams.

It would stop if fans stopped going! It's been a ridiculous format since day one.

Season ticket holders won't stop going when they've already paid for the game! Agree it's a ridiculous system. Done as clubs don't want to split the SKY money between 14 clubs rather then 12.

They'll just play midweek.

Don't kid yourself.

It doesn't matter if season ticket holders don't go. One, the clubs already have the money from the sale and two, they count the fan in the attendance whether they are there or not.

Apparently IMG says no.

No way, they always tell us the modern players canā€™t play 3 times week, Must have at least 5 days rest between matches.

If you say so.

We'll see.

I remember Leeds playing Wakefield back to back (and potentially a 3rd time) in quick succession in 2012/3 maybe. Was actually quite good it got everyone fired up for the following game!

I think there was a time when Leeds and Widnes played every week for a month in the mid-80s. 2x league, Cup, Cup replay. Every game bigger than the previous one.

What is ridiculous is scheduling a fixture that you know will need to be rearranged when you are putting the fixtures out, and hoping neither team makes the cup final. Shambolic planningĀ

Play it on the international day and let the Wigan coach, (sorry) England coach Shaun Wane pick every single Wigan player available to allow the Leythers the opportunity to be competitive and get our first victory on their hallowed turf since 1984.

You know it makes sense.

Its not the repeat fixtures its how they fall. Why cant we have 11 home then 11 away then the loops and magic somewhere between them all

The fixtures have been weird this year for some reason.

By round 12, Wire will have played all three games against Catalans - twice away. We've already had repeat fixtures against Hull FC and Hull KR.Ā

We're done with three games against Catalans before we've even played Saints, Wigan or Hudds once.

I think we used to have that, but certain clubs having to have long periods without home games probably means it is harder to do.

What about the married ones?

Is the objection to playing the same two teams teams three times in quick succession the reason we don't haveĀ  an Aussie ashes competition any more?
