Paul Cooke will be assistant coach next season

It's in Hull live according to them

Former Hull FC and Hull KR half-back Paul Cooke will link up with Featherstone Rovers for the 2025 season.

and wait for  it

Hull Live understands the 43-year-old will work under James Ford as an assistant coach

Well the season has just ended, and we've already got the laughing policeman appearing. I was opposed to Ford being coach for next season. Then when you watch some of the tries scored last season, you realiise the players did move the ball around, and created space out wide for wingers to score. When a winger can score 21 tries from 26 appearances. It tells a different story from the percieved 5 drives and a kick. There were many factors why the team struggled during the season. The main one for me was players who've been at Fev some time, couldn't take in that the first time in years we weren't invincible. Then the half-back situation didn't help, not being able to put the same combination out every week, was another concern. Injuries then took their toll, indiscipline was terrible at times. Then players not playing to the structures. I think that's where all the other reasons were responsible for some abject performances. So I'm going to give Ford the benefit of the doubt for now, and hopefully we'll have a focused group of players for all the games. If Paul Cooke is the new assistant coach. Good luck to him.

Any source for that? would be a puzzling one given the number of centres we have already been linked with, and Glover signed a two-year contract at Sheffield last year, not that that always means anything.

Only guessing here but I'd like to think Cooke's role will be focussing on the attacking side, I must admit I assumed that was what Steadman was helping with whilst he was at the club (whereas Hardman's has been on defence). We could certainly do with improving our shape and cohesion with ball in hand.

I agree we could have at centres next year if all linked signings are true

Hatton minkin tuimavave glover Hardcastle and players like O’Connor and wynne who played centre seems strange to me

I do wonder if Minikin might be one of the players to retire? He stood still at the final whistle at Odsal looking disconsolate and two or three of the Fev players went over and seemed to be consoling him and having a special word.

I did see that but didn’t think anything of it but I still think I’d rather have Hatton and tuimavave at centres then glover but that’s my own opinion

Bit young to be retiring, he's only29. When I watched the highlights I seem to remember he missed a tackle near the end of the match which resulted in a Bulls try. That could have been the reason unless my memory's playing tricks again.

Definitely wasn't Minikin who missed a tackle there and his defence has been pretty good all year. I think he's been one of our more underrated players this year but the number of centres we have been linked with suggests someone is moving on.

Paul Cooke was class when he coached Doncaster when they was in the champ a good few years back. Managed to finish 3rd with a poor side. Following season gave him nothing to spend so he left and we went down. He'll improve you in my opinion

Regarding centres, what's Alex Sutcliffe doing at Donny, I would have expected bigger things from him? He left Leeds for Cas, and didn't they try to turn him into a 2nd rower? The fans loved him at Fev, maybe we could restart his career?

Think he's had a couple of injuries and as you say he played back row at Donny when he did play. He hasn't kicked on quite as much as seemed likely, though it's worth noting his big year with us was in that golden 2019 spell when everything seemed to go right for us for a few months. If the rumours are true we are going to have plenty of centres signed up already anyway.
