If you're lucky enough to get the cheapest tickets in the lottery that Man Utd run, reselling seats returned by a season ticket holder, for an adult + child, you'll pay £132. There's a lot of locals who can't pay those kind of prices. No wonder non-league football in Manchester (and the NW more generally) is booming.

Yes I’m a Man U member and buy those tickets for me and the lad several times a season. Rugby League under-sells itself.

100% and I will keep banging that drum until I stop seeing posts praising clubs for devaluing the sport with dirt cheap tickets. How are we supposed to attract sponsors whilst sending a message that we don’t think the games are valuable.

Crowd figures and stadium utilisation gives more IMG points than profit. Why wouldn’t rich owners subsidise dirt cheap tickets? They are literally being incentivised to do so.

If that was how you got people to watch sport, RL wouldn't be in the mess that it is in.

Because reality intrudes when you run out of money and IMG points don't pay the bills?

Quite right. The way forward is to double ticket prices. That should fix it.

Price and affordability are two separate entities ie if we charged £360 for a season ticket that’s currently £300 that seems a large increase - hence why monthly memberships make it affordable ie £5 a month increase is easily sold ie a pint a month less pays it

I was of course, as usual, trying to make a point. Tickets too cheap...we're selling the game short.  Tickets too expensive...no one will pay.

Getting the value balance is difficult and one thing is sure, whatever, the answer will be wrong.

I see Salford have been given the expertise of Michael Carter to sort them out.

I expected them to get punished, but I think that is extremely vindictive 🤣🤣

I actually think that's a really smart appointment to have him on the team of people overseeing things. He knows exactly what it's like to run a club on a tight budget.

Is running a club on a shoe string ever pretty? I think he did about a good a job as he could’ve at Wakefield considering the money available at the time.

Apart from Hetherington (in his Sheffield days) Carter must be pretty much the only SL club owner/senior director to run a club on a consistently break-even basis on smallish crowds and with an almost hand-to-mouth existence. It's a great appointment.

I agree. Unfortunately it soured somewhat in the end, and I'm surprised he's considered this role as he'd had enough of RL by the time he was on his way out of the club.

He will get them on an even keel if given the authority, but there will be plenty of outs to cover the shortfall. I hope the Salford fans stick it out if that's they way they go.

I think there is one certainty, the squad they have now will be totally different come the end of the season. I already know of two high profile players that Clubs have approached Salford about.

I guess when it's not your money and you are a consultant/overseer/advisor this will be a lot easier.

If the stadium deal finally goes through carter won’t be there for long but we will see.

Contrary to what Paul King keeps saying,  things aren’t going to be fixed overnight once the stadium lease agreement is sorted. It’ll take months, even years of work to get SRD viable without a moneyman

He’s going to have to live up to his word, Shame as the club has just started to produce new academy players.

Very much has the vibe of administration before the administrators come in

If Carter can't straighten them, then there is no future for them.

He knows income, he knows outgoings.

He knows numbers.

Matt Shaw did describe it as essentially administration without the sanctions and that appears to be pretty accurate.
