It's frankly dire that this situation comes around annually. It's pretty disrespectful to the league and other clubs.

It’s not great when it becomes expected. Just a club living on the edge with handouts plugging the gaps. It can’t continue.

Nice to see the usual suspects showing sympathy toward Salford supporters at this difficult time.

I wondered how long before that old chestnut popped it's head up.

Other fans have every right to be peeved at the never-ending nonsense, self-pity and other-blaming of the Salford club and their fans.

It's no-one else's fault.

I have every sympathy for Salford fans. I don’t for the Salford club itself.

Can you imagine if this was Wakefield every season.

How the boots would be going into the ribs with no restraint.

Salford fans? You mean Salford shareholders surely?

Yes as a club you have performed admirably of late, since the departure of you great benefactor ' Marvellous Marwan'. But it must be a worry for fans when they hear these things. Hope you work through it

How the hell have they performed admirably!!! What’s admirable about not paying your bills and then spending money you don’t have.

Would I be admirable if I didn’t pay my mortgage and then came around to your house and bought your car off you with a dud cheque?

I can forgive Salford for being a basket case club, as Trinity fans we know what that’s like. What I can’t take is that they continue to buy players and with it a league position they clearly can’t afford. We had to go down and it’s about time they did

A difficult time that has been totally self inflicted. How many years are you going to spout this self pitting tripe.

Twenty five years Trinity battled to stay in SL and only once did the RFL help us out. You on the other hand have the begging bowl out every year. Despite the fact that your council built you a new stadium and wave the rent every chuffin year

I find the shareholder thing to be a huge disappointment, after a lot of grand promises where has it gone? It feels like it died as soon as the money was banked.

However in this instance it needs to be stressed that this is an advance, not a handout, and will affect their IMG score so it's up to them if they want to live hand to mouth and suffer the consequences. It doesn't give you great faith but they always make it to the start and finish line somehow.

What I find more interesting is these stories always coming from one side of the pennines with unattributed quotes from club chairmen via friendly journalists. Where is it coming from and why would be a good story.

I was born to run a club like this. Number 1, I do not spook easily, and those who think I do, are wasting their time, with their surprise attacks.

Sympathy is deserved when it not an annual tactical ploy for funds, you can guarantee this was withheld by the club until the IMG scores came out and they’ve continued signing players knowing they can’t afford it. There will be some busy agents tonight.

There is no somehow about it. The how is that they don’t pay their bills.

“Co owners” who now need to fund their business, The clubs financial woes shouldn’t come as a surprise to them though as they get bi-weekly newsletters 👀

Calling Sir Jim, calling Sir Jim. There's a Manchester club that could do with a benefactor. It would cost a fraction of what you have put into other sports and it would be going to a club that knows how to buy players wisely, but needs a little help in funding those acquisitions.

It takes wisdom to know when a discussion has run its course.

It takes reasonableness to end that discussion.

Two things that jump out from that article are that Salford say at the bottom that 'Amounts received by a previous regime ( £1.5 million !) are a council matter, the detail of which we are not privy to' i.e. we won't be paying back any of that ... and the fact that Swinton also owe £200k.

Having listened to Paul King on The League Express podcast last week (which now has me questioning the timing of said interview)

He puts a lot of the blame on previous ownerships who left a debt to the council and agreed a stadium deal which sees SRD unable to benefit financially from which basically leaves them living off sponsorships, merchandise and ticket sales.

There's needs to be some massive changes at Salford before the situation gets any better

No it wasn't. Though the Salford fans wouldn't accept that at the time.

It is not a community owned club, in the sense they like to keep quoting.

We get it….you hate Salford.

My partner is the CEO of Betfred (no, really) so works really closely with Fred most days.  She got me in the posh lounge for the GF and I was sat 2 seats away for the meal from Fred himself.  I mithered him after a few drinks trying to get him to either (a) buy Salford or (b) help Salford and his only offering was “it’s not my game mate”.  So, so frustrating because he’s worth circa £3 BILLION so it would really be crumbs from the table to make a massive difference but alas it isn’t going to happen. 😕

Yup.  But he could drop say £10 mill to help the club AND the city and wouldn’t even notice.  So bloody frustrating….

if this had come to light before the gradings were finalised, would it have had any impact on the points Salford received?

Yes, I think that would be wise 😬

Mind you, if she is genuinely Joanne Whitaker  then she could sort Salford out on her own.

has the RFL received the money from SKY yet so that it could indeed hand it over to Salford as the one thing we are always been told is that the RFL has no money . that been the case they could not help Salford out.
