Signed for New Zealand Warriors apparently, very disappointing to hear this. The way the Rhinos have looked after him with his concussion issues makes it worse, no loyalty at all.

I assume you mean the way the Rhinos looked after him when he got concussions while representing the club?

It isn't like he got into a car accident outside of work.

To think a young player moving on means they have no loyalty is a crazy opinion to have IMO.

Loyalty means zero in modern professional sport. Clubs have loyalty as long as it suits, so do players in return.

If he's been offered at least even nearly as good wages, at his age, I'd have gone too. Playing in the best competition, almost guaranteeing himself an England squad place at the 2026 world cup, and even after 3 years he would still be Under 25 if he chose to return. He is good enough, he'd be working with Agar who gave him his debut, and he'll learn massively.

Lets be real as well, he has as much chance of winning something at the Warriors as the Rhinos in the next 3 years too.

I'm surprised Leeds haven't made a very good offer to him though given all the cap dispensation levers that would have been available due to his homegrown status etc.

Pretty poor that the club are in this situation, but not surprising given the relative on field issues recently.

Some fans moan about players leaving and lack of loyalty but how many of us would change employers if we had a better offer

The entitlement some fans feel towards the young players at their club is ridiculous sometimes.

And often those young players get paid peanuts.

Absolutely, its not personal its simple business.

At Leeds we were treated with some extraordinary loyalty from a golden generation of players who all at one point or another were offered more elsewhere. Lets not kid ourselves though, several did leave at some points (Smith and Ellis come to mind!), and those that remained did because a) the club did look after them very well, and b) we were consistently successful.

Lots of Leeds fans also forget that a key member of that golden generation was "poached" from our nearest and at the time most fierce rivals, as their captain no less.

there is no loyalty in modern society - just looking after NO1- sad really

I guess you'd agree the lack of loyalty the breakaway clubs showed the RFU in 1895 was very bad too.

Players leave clubs and always have done. It's very sad that a future superstar like Gannon is leaving Leeds and Super League. But trying to shoehorn that into your usual Decline of Society stuff is boring.

There will be 3 Siddal juniors playing in the NRL next season.

Siddal's track record of bringing through outstanding young talent is truly astonishing. There's many more across Super League who came from Siddal's ranks.

The Rhinos looked after him with his concussion issues because that is what they should be doing as an employer. Any concussions or any injuries happened whilst he was their employee. They have duty to support him.

The three people primarily responsible for that were Gary Hetherington, Rohan Smith and Rich Hunwicks. Not a generic concept of Leeds Rhinos.

There’s not as many levers as you’d think. Homegrown has very small benefit if you aren’t marquee, and Newman and Croft are already two of those.

They went above and beyond to be fair, the full year off was the club (and Gannon’s) choice.

Best amateur RL club in the country and by some distance. It’s what we (Hunslet ARLFC) aspire to be like and I suggest many others do too.

Honourable mention for West Hull and St Pats, who also produce many great players.

Gareth Ellis was a Wakefield Trinity youth product!

I'd rather he stayed in Superleague but wherever he ends up, I just hope he stays fit and healthy because he's a real talent.

Gannon will be great over there, and as sad as I am to see him go you really can’t blame him.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see him in the Ashes squad this yesr.

If someone came along and offered me 3 or 4 times the money to do the same job I'd be gone in an instant. Though I suspect in this case it isn't just about the money it's about leaving a regional RL competition and going to play in the biggest RL competition in the world.

If he'd signed for say Wigan or saints, you may have a point. But he's got the opportunity to play in another country, in the best comp in the world. What an experience for the lad. Loyalty doesn't come into it. How many of us still work for the same company who gave us our first opportunity? Or do most of us go on to better our career/life.
