gazza77
So called smart meters. Change utility supplier and they no longer work, meaning a return to having to provide meter readings. All because suppliers can't agree a standard for them all to be compatible. Bob8
I arrive at the hotel, tired and hungry. A couple dash to the bar to get their food order in before me. Once at the bar, they start to make their mind up and peruse the menu. My issus here is why do bar staff in the UK think this is OK. I worked at a coffee shop/sandwich bar. When people did this, I sent them to the back of the queue and they never did it again. If they were huffy, it was funny. What is more, no-one ever did it twice with me, showing it is a deliberate move to be a dick. 1 "You clearly have never met Bob8 then, he's like a veritable Bryan Ferry of RL." - Johnoco 19 Jul 2014

On a similar note, those who in coffee shops and sandwich bars who once they have placed their order look utterly shocked that they're being asked to pay, they then shuffle around in their pockets or bags for money. Oh come on, just get your money out and ready to pay. 6 "When in deadly danger, when beset by doubt; run in little circles, wave your arms and shout"

Oh come on, just get your money out and ready to pay. The people who are worst at this depends on the culture. In England, I was used to women being confused at the teill by a request for payment and thought it normal. I then went to Denmark and found that women there were as able as men. Indeed, my Danish girlfriend would get infuriated when visiting England as she could not understand why many women in England found it difficult. After all, she thought, they are not Pakistani and it is Pakistanis that find it difficult. I was a little taken abank when she mentioned that she wanted to avoid the queue in Denmark with Pakistanis in as it would take ages. These are crude stereotypes, clearly, it is comes down to who as accepted as being slow at these things in one country against another. It's a shame that we can only like a post once, not 1,000,000,000, 000 times. it's even worse round here owing to the lack of manual dexterity and increasingly declining eyesight amongst a significant number of elderly female shoppers. 1 “If you understand, things are just as they are; if you do not understand, things are just as they are.”

Not just women or elderly people. Yesterday in our staff canteen*, I was behind this late 20s guy in the queue for the sandwich counter, he got to the counter then took a while to consider his order. Just as I was about to barge ahead he decided. Then I was behind him at the till to pay, he got there, the prices are clearly signposted where he made the order yet he still had that gormless stunned look when told the price and had to then work out that that meant he had to pay, he spent far too long trying to find out if he had the spare cash before then saying he had to use contactless payment as he didn't have enough money. Then after he paid and said, "oh add a coffee to that order as well" and proceeded to count his change again. He's bloody lucky he got out of there without being bludgeoned with his ham and coleslaw baguette. * or "restaurant" as the canteen manager likes to call it, she doesn't half get worked up when people call it a canteen. Once at the bar, they start to make their mind up and peruse the menu. I experienced a slight variation on this theme in my local Tesco once. I'd finished my shopping and made my way to one of the conveyor belt tills. It was quite busy and I started placing my stuff on the conveyor behind the divider thing that the people in front of me had put down to separate their shopping from everyone else's. It was then I noticed that they had two dividers placed on the belt with nothing between them. As the till assistant was about to finish with the customer in front of them, and they obviously had no shopping, I asked them what were they doing. They calmly explained that their daughter was shopping and they were saving her a place in the queue. For one of the first times in my life I was speechless. I then recovered from my dumbfoundedness and said "Don't be bloody stupid" and reached over to remove the dividers so my shopping would move to the till, just as their daughter arrived and placed a couple of items in between them. My anger and instant mood change was palpable. The till assistant had noticed all this and gave me a nice smile which I think was intended to calm me down. After the irritating threesome had left she said "If their daughter hadn't arrived just in time, I'd have done the same as you and served you next". I spent the rest of the day trying to get my head round what sort of people felt it was okay to do this? 1 Over thirty years since they last appeared on the big screen together, Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins have been offered starring roles in a film based on events at Wembley Stadium on Saturday 12th August 2023. It is hoped that "Silenced by the Lams" will be a box office success.
