I'll be listening in, as I mainly work from home. Looking forward to it, but it's certainly not been bigged up much  in the run-up.

Second ball of the match, and Bairstow hits it for six.

This is the problem with fifty over cricket. These deathly slow starts.

(On a serious note, the frequently deathly problem with 50 over cricket, that is proving impossible to really address, is the 20-40 over spell, particularly in the opening innings)

6 singles off the 21st over. They're helpfully proving your point.

Not looking great for England, but it's only match 1.

And I've got India in a sweepstake. :kolobok_cool:

For those who want positive posts only on this forum:

  • England clobbered Pakistani n the  5 match ODI series preceding the 2019 world cup. Pakistan won the World Cup game at Trent Bridge, but England won the tournament.
  • If England are going to win the world cup they will have to beat Australia, India and Pakistan at some point and now with an abject net run rate. They are going to have to do so in the group stages.

One unusual stat, according to the Beeb - the only ODI World Cup venue in the world where New Zealand have scored a century against England in the entire history of the tournament remains... Ahmedabad.

All 11 of the English players scored a double figure number of runs. None of the 11 NZ Batters ended with double figures.

Took me longer that it should have to work that out, and the implications... 🤣😶

With the best, thats a good bit of PR, though I would say the Bedford team, theres, like, you know, 13 blokes who can get together at the weekend to have a game together, which doesnt point to expansion of the game. Point, yeah go on!

The Netherlands today were pretty good with the ball, but couldn't back it up with the bat.

This tournament is way too long. Crowds are terrible too.

India only loves cricket these days if India are playing or it's T20.

"I am the avenging angel; I come with wings unfurled, I come with claws extended from halfway round the world. I am the God Almighty, I am the howling wind. I care not for your family; I care not for your kin. I come in search of terror, though terror is my own; I come in search of vengeance for crimes and crimes unknown. I care not for your children, I care not for your wives, I care not for your country, I care not for your lives." - (c) Jim Boyes - "The Avenging Angel"

A few world cups are way too long. And there was a quote in my paper which said ‘ Indians don’t love cricket they love Indian cricket ‘

The RU one being another great example.

I thought the last RL World Cup was brilliant because the gaps were filled with the women's and wheelchair games.

Australia batting and getting fairly mashed by the Indian bowling attack.

Well, you don't often see any match, let alone a limited-overs one, begin with 3 maiden overs. But the Netherlands' bowlers just did that to New Zealand.

Becoming a 'bit' of a worry, but it's a long tourny so need to panic or owt.

Against Bangladesh, England had built up a really good score from the first three batsmen, so the remaining players went out to have a slosh with not a lot riding on it.

No reason to panic but we should think about whose job it is to hold the innings together in the middle of the order, because it is in overs 15-40 where the game is won and lost and where the top sides' spinners can really strangle you.

Fine when we already have 300+ on the board, but if you are 4 down after 12 overs you will need someone to stay around.

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.
