It's a judgement call whether Lafai would have got there before the ball went dead.

If he had gone to the video ref then it would still have been a judgment call, the video ref make a definitive call.

I would have been happy with a penalty try given but I can see why the ref thought the kick was too heavy.

Kendall had nothing to lose by sending it upstairs

Don’t know why he didn’t go to the screen.

I think we know why.

Rugby Union the only game in the world were the spectators handle the ball more than the players.

Yes, but how would the video ref have more to go on than Kendall? It was a judgement call more than seeing definitively what has happened which is what the video ref is there for.

As I say, I would have been OK with a penalty try but I can see why it wasn't given.

I thought it was the right call, kick had a bit too much on it to be a penalty try IMO. Definition of a 50/50 though, so no doubt anyone wanting Salford to win (except me) will convince themselves it's a huge injustice.

Absolutely. They needed two scores and that was a gimme to get them within one converted try.

They don't need two scores, they need 1 score and a drop goal. Drop goal can be kicked from 40 out so make the territory count and try and score a try. Would be different if they were 8 down.

I can understand the referee's logic,  but the game happens at such pace,  I'm not sure why you wouldn't use technology and get a 2nd opinion.

Knowles should have been red and he should not be playing next week.  Appalling stuff.

All I can say is that given my refereeing experience I would have given a penalty try
