The Red Card Today

Recommended Posts

Firstly I must apologise for not getting a link.

However I have just seen today's high lights of the Wakey Leeds game . I have been watching this game for years and that is the weirdest sending off I have seen. The French Trialist has the ball and is going forward and Myler tackles him high, the Wakey player just raises is body to shake him off and Myler goes head first into the ground. I have seen Myler doing something similar before and getting a player penalised. I would be interested what some of you think when you see this, but I think this is harsh on the young French Trialist.

I don't think a reasonable person can watch that replay and come to that assessment I'm afraid.

What a strange incident.

Nailed on red card but the fact that the player sent off had possession the ball is very unusual.

I can't see how the ball carrier is guilty of 'guiding' the tackler head first into the floor. Yes it happened but how can the ball carrier be culpable when he has at least one arm on the ball and the tackler has two on the carrier?

It's a horror challenge (presumably 'tackle' is the wrong word) and there can be no argument with the red.

I don't particularly like Myler these days but the way he is occasionally blamed for the fouls committed against him is quite silly.

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

It is as clear as day in the video.

I wondered the same at the game but my view was a bit restricted. Looking at the video above, I can’t tell who ended up with the ball but Salabio looked to use both arms to dump Myler. Terrible tackle and deserved a red definitely, in my opinion.

The ball carrier stood up straight. As horrible as it incident was, he stood up while the tackler managed himself into the floor with both arms available. Very odd mind...

Clear red. Not sure what clip you were watching, but it obviously wasn’t of this tackle.

He didn't just stand up though. He stood up then speared Myler head first into the ground.

I really don't know how you see it otherwise.

Many keep calling it a tackle, ball carriers don't tackle they try and break free from them. The initial contact is by Myler with both arms around his neck whilst the player is in a stooped position. Ok it all goes wrong from there. But my initial point is that it's a very strange incident .

Harsh? Really 😯

Myler is a first class grubby little git but that was extremely dangerous and stupid, it could have ended disastrously,  big ban coming and I expect his trial period will be a short one.

It looks like the Wakefield player juggles the ball into Myler then attempts the tackle. He definitely has both hands on Myler by the end of the contact and he clearly lifts Myler, it's a contact that would have been red even 20 years ago.

He clearly wraps his right arm round Myler and propels him upwards using his body as leverage.
