Catalans=Cats

Something that has baffled me for years is why do people refer to Catalans Dragons as Cats?

Presumably it's to shorten the name but no one refers to Warrington as Wars or Wigan as Wigs so why cats?

Why not dracs?

Surely, Castleford, Leigh and previously Wakefield are the cats?

Lions, Tigers, Panthers, Wildcats, Cougars, Leopards.... Cats seems natural.

It's pretty common practice! If it wasn't for the fact "Wire" sounds so close to "Warr", they'd probably use that too!
