The whining about the low GF attendance thread

Looks fantastic on tv.

And that's me switching off as I have a commitment and will watch the game later.

Also why are we still using old Trafford? When one of footballs major stadiums isn’t getting used for the euros because it’s run down and needs major work.

This just isn't correct though.

Old Trafford was initially included but then asked to be taken off the list as the club couldn't guarantee availability in 2028 due to redevelopment plans.

Looks as though Newcastle United have come up up with a solution that will see them expand to minimum 65k. Whilst it may take 3/4 years , it would provide a fitting venue for a GF in the future  especially if magic ends up getting moved/scrapped under IMG.

Happy to be told otherwise but dont think there is any issues with the size of the pitch, in goals  and run offs up there?

I really should have it in copy and paste why the Grand Final needs to remain in the ‘central’ heartlands. Tonight proved it more than ever.

Shame the Arab owners can't help the Thunder and the Falcons.

Manchester is in the middle of Yorkshire and Lancashire, perfect for a final to a season that is played between the 2 old areas. And of course catalan but this doesn't matter to them as it will always be a plane ride

Fair enough I didn’t know that, as I just thought it was dropped because it’s a dump which it is lol.

Would be a great sporting umberella if they did.  It would take less than the interest on  their pocket change to run the Thunder.  Im still gutted for them the way things have turned out.

With the demise of the thunder and potentially magic weekend will RL walk away from Newcastle entirely?

Newcastle is a great city for this sort of event. The ground is impressive and really accessible. The only thing about SJP that could be an issue over and above OT is that, with two relatively small stands, SJP can only make up the seat numbers with an incredibly high top tier around the two other sides. It is a long, long way up there!

For anyone based in the heartlands west of the Pennines, it is quicker and cheaper to get a train to London than it is Newcastle, with no chance of getting back after the game. Would put a huge dent on neutrals, not to mention limit how many fans of the participants are going to come at a week’s notice. Don’t fix what isn’t broken.

I'm for keeping it at OT. Other less so.

Manchester is the perfect City for the GF. Leeds would be a great second choice.

Stadium choice limits it somewhat.

I think Manchester is the best location at the moment.

Ideally we continue to build the GF event into one that nobody wants to miss and plans to go to every season.

Until we get to that promised land and in view of the playoff systems, geography and demographics - I would keep it as central as we can to where the fanbases are coming from on a week’s notice.

For the size of the city Leeds deserves a better stadium than elland rd.

"Deserves" or needs?

Sport, amongst other things, is a dream-world offering escape from harsh reality and the disturbing prospect of change.
