What were the players paid for each match against Tonga last year?

I've seen figures for footballers, rugby union players and cricketers given for context, but not sure they are valid comparisons. Footballers earn about 50x what rugby league players earn, so the fact that they earn about 10x the amount for internationals is probably a reflection of where the income levels are for the sport. And cricket and RU see the bulk of their money come in via internationals, so it will be more lucrative to play them, in fact most of the cricketers are employed by the ECB in full

A tier 8 team paying 17 players £250 for a match is a bit ridiculous imho. That’s £4,250. At a tenner in the first 425 on the gate would be needed just for that cost, much more actually with on costs and tax. The manager and possibly coaches will be getting paid too. Non league teams go bust all the time for this reason.

But £250 for players representing England is pitiful I agree.

That's why they have sponsors though too, and there is regional differences.

It is so pitiful it's terrible.

Me, personally I don't think players playing for your country should be paid in any sport. It's about a bit of pride and "wanting" to represent your country. They don't necessarily have to play even if picked. I wouldn't have thought it's compulsory. Pride in the shirt, that's what it should be.

Not sure I agree with players not being paid at all. They should be given fair pay for their work in relation to the amount of money that the organisers are making. Sadly, I suspect £250 is a fair reflection of how much money the RFL are making out of the events.

If they can't afford to play then they shouldn't play.

I'm sure I've heard that somewhere before.

Hastings are averaging over 1,000 through the gate at £12 a go. They also do okay for sponsorships and have a decent social club that's always pretty busy. Not saying it's right that lower level footballers earn that but they do and not every club goes bust paying them.

I watched the documentary where Robbie Savage was at Macclesfield  to try and assemble a squad and even he was amazed at some of the money prospective players were asking for at level 7 in the pyramid. They all thought they were Ronaldo.

What about Chatham Town Ramsgate swimming in dosh.

Sheppey United Deal Town some of the crowds at Kent Non League Football are amazing.

I bet that 99% of the players are paid in cash (In fact i know they are) which is one reason why there is so much money floating around.

The owner of Faversham Town spent 400K last season trying to get out of Step 6 and failed

That particular experiment is going so well that he appointed himself as manager yesterday.

Can’t wait until he has to sack himself in front of a mirror by the end of the season.

Lads get that playing level 5 Rugby Union.

I dare not suggest what level of the pyramid that is par for the course for club football...

I think our lads at Beverley Town get about that per game in the 9th division.

I genuinely think the players should take a stand and refuse to play.

It’s a physical game which can end in a tackle for meagre salaries, action like that might actually give the RFL a kick up the backside.

A doubt if Hastings FC average more than a 1,000 every home game and that's on average every other week.

I have a problem with the word "EARN " used in this context - scaffolders putting 6 lifts round the town hall clock in January "EARN"  their wage - the obscene amounts thrown at footballers is not earned its lauded upon them for some bizzare reason

Not that this is the important bit in a thread about the England national rugby league team paying less than some non league teams that no one has heard of but Hastings' average attendance last year was 1,384.

So let's keep the focus on the dire state of RL in Europe that, comfortably the top side in the northern hemisphere, can only scrape to £250 a game, in a match that is a curtain raiser for a tier 2 regular round game.

Did any of the teams you mention get promoted.

History shows us that suger daddies bankroll some teams for a while and then get bored and leave the club in financial hock.

Look at some of the former league teams playing in the 2nd tier of non league football.

Is there a link to show that Hastings FC averaged 1,384 last season.

20 million people don't tune in to watch the scaffolders, though.

Sheppey United played in the FA Cup 1st round on TV home v Walsall

Ramsgate were promoted also made FA Cup 1st round away to Wimbledon

Deal Town promoted to Isthmian South

Chatham Town just missed out on promotion but gate went through to roof

Sadly my team Beckenham Town were relegated however we still have the cheapest pint and on match days behind the goal you will find the Becks ultras which includes

1 Huddersfield Giants fan

1 Hull FC fan

1 rugby league (Anyteam fan)

Myself

Considering there are only 8/10 ultras that's pretty good RL fanbase:)

This whole fiasco is so depressing that I'm starting to think it can't be real.

And what's to stop the scaffolders becoming well-paid soccer players?

In any case, this is about paying the England players properly, valuing them and what they do, even if they donate their fees to charity .
