Two year deal for someone turning 35 is punchy!

Yep. Managed to secure himself a contract nearer home which the club have paid well overs for. I said it a while ago. Sustainability is going to be the key in the long run. The people guiding the ship need to be very very careful.

We'll got more coaches than Barlows forsure now

We will have an under 18 team to coach next season as well as the First team.

Ashurst is the signing i'm most happy with of the 4 that were rumoured a few months ago. Milner and Dudson will be very good signings but just look at the reception Ashurst got when he announced he was leaving Wakey.

He's a top quality professional and leader and that left side second row was a issue for us this coming season as Wardle is really struggling to get onto the pitch and his replacement in Hirst just seems even better when utilised in the middle.

there is nothing yet on the oldham rlfc news about the signing of ashurst

and nothing on rugby league news either.

nor any thing in the papers.

Believe me he has signed a two year deal and you will no doubt hear it soon.

superstud you seem to know a bit about him,

is he still any good ?

Bear in mind I am from Wakefield and extended family are all season ticket holders yes I know a bit about him. So yes IMHO he is one of those ultimate professional’s who will enhance and drive standards. TASH does not take short cuts! At this stage of his career and how your club is looking to evolve I believe it will turn out to be a shrewd partnership. I don’t know him on a personal basis just going on my sporting observations. I have never spoken to him. So then understandably the question might be how do I know he has signed etc? Just trust me on that one.

thanks superstud for your very good summery on ashurst

now oldham are also said to be keen on ian thornley.

do you have any thoughts on him as a player.

now about wakefield you have walked the league.

and i think the play off will be between wakefield and toulouse.

when wakefield played toulouse in france i watched it on french tv.

they battered you, your only loss so far, if i was you i would not think that wakfield are already promoted ?

Regarding Thornley again I do not know him and I do not know if he has signed for Oldham. IMHO throughout his career he appears to have been injury prone and quite possibly has not fully fulfilled his true potential. He definitely has presence and his size in the centre is his most potent weapon. Will do a job in the Championship but would not be paying out big bucks for his services.

Regarding Wakefield yes I follow them but I follow RL in general. They should walk the league on a 1.3 - 1.6 million playing budget. However as you say it does not automatically follow that they will win the play offs. Although I think they will.

Remember the conditions are extremely different when taking on a team in France and they are not to be underestimated.

So yes I cannot see beyond Wakefield and especially on home soil. Full houses at The Trin will make for an absolutely cracking atmosphere. The club is on the verge of taking off IMHO. I predict that the new owner will sanction the signing of a big name in the next 2-3 years. Watch this space.

Historically, he's had some big injuries which definitely stifled his career at the top level. However, has he even missed a game this season in the Championship this season?

I see on the BBC Sports Rugby Union website, George Ford is likely to miss the next series of Rugby Union internationals due to injury., It goes on to sat that his contract with Sale expires at the end of the season, but then goes onto say that they have held positive talks about extending that contract through to the 2027 Rugby Union World Cup. But after that ..........

He has missed some games this season. Not sure how many and not sure if through injury or purely managing him correctly. He has done a good job in a dominant team. He will be tested a little bit more next season if he signs for Oldham. I think every Oldham fan would say that you don’t expect to walk the League like Trinity have this season. I think you will do well though.

He seems shocked on his Facebook page, stating that he received a phone call at 2am informing him. Mentions Diskin, MacDermott and especially Stuart Littler, but that’s all; no one from the current regime. Sad and unfair if that’s the way it ended. I agree that the club need to look onwards and upwards, from top to bottom. Hopefully both Shez and the club can mend their relationship and both parties move on to greater success next season. I’m not party to what went on or what his coaching attributes are, but he always came across as a good bloke to me. Good luck for the future, sir, and thanks for all that you’ve given us.

Just seen shez's FB post and some disparaging posts. I am sad to see him go. But I have faith in the board. Look at where we are now compared with 2 years ago. People come and go, not always of their own wishes. Look at last season, the number of players 'discarded'. That's sport. Just look at Muuray from workington,  signed for keighley as head coach, who then dumped him before he had a chance to start. Shez will walk into another job, no doubts. Reading between the lines I think one of the senior players will take over as assistant.  As someone earlier said we have more coaches than Barlow's.
