Terrific game this morning, loving how competitive the international level of Rugby League is at the moment.

The Tongan middle forwards were inmense in the first half, Fonua-Blake and Taumalolo in particular.

Probably one of the greatest test matches I've seen. We need more international games man and games like this takes the international game to another level

Completely agree. The NRL must not forget England though. And England must not forget France and Europe.

Absolute game of the season for me, how good is international rugby league! 💪😊🏋️♂️

Probably like yourself Jim I`ve been watching Test matches involving the Pacific Nations for near on I reckon forty years and can well remember the days when the games were one-pass hit-ups and every basic error in the book. What I saw tonight, especially that first half from Tonga, blows me away how far we`ve come, League of the highest order tonight.

One off-field observation - the Pasifika Schools Choir did a lovely job with the anthems, especially the Fijian one before the women's game.

More of that please.

Pacific Championship during Origin… please…

So no Australia in the Pacific Championship and no Origin players for Samoa, Tonga, PNG etc?

Watched the Samoa-Fiji game first, why does the NRL seem to think the viewers of the womens game have poor eyesight or something? The numbers on the back of their shirt seem 2 x bigger than usual, very strange. But a good game.

Tonga-NZ was a great game to watch, great physical contest with some nice skills on show, Tonga just about to come back in the end with a great drop goal.

I don't know what the rules are in the NRL, but JWH should be banned for awhile after his picking up an injured player, not sure how the ref didn't penalise him on the field in the first place.

To be honest, I think NZ were lucky in the end to get back into that game, they have absolutely zero threat from 6 & 9. Kini (so?) at FB is an excellent player, and pretty much everything came off his partnership with Johnson.

I think I have watched every Newcastle game this season, so seen Crossland play, and I am a fan of him at club level - but he is severely exposed at international level, the only thing he has going for him is his quick line speed and even that got him and NZ in trouble at least 2/3 times when he missed the tackle.

And as everyone else that has seen CNK play last week and this week - he is not a 6, and should be no where near the halves.

Yeah, it is easy to say that in hindsight. Same players though, aren't they?

Mid season no. Doesn’t mean tournaments including Australia can’t be organised post-season.

As for the players, there is purely opinion but I wouldn’t be surprised if some chose their nation over the State.

De-coupling Origin from internationals in the Southern Hemisphere in my opinion is hugely important. There is money to be made outside of those Origin games. The appetite is there. And it would also make league the most dominant sport in the entire Pacific IMO.

Well, we all have different opinions.  But I don't see the value in playing internationals at the same time as Origin and forcing players to make a choice.  Not when we have seen that we can have really well attended and competitive internationals end of season.

I would certainly be for mid season tests (i.e ANZAC day) but playing a Pacific Championship to run alongside Origin would just devalue it for me.

There's been a lot of mickey-taking on social media about those numbers for the last couple of weeks. PNG fans have been joking that the jerseys had been ordered off Temu.

Not surprised at all, I noticed them last week as well, just ... Very strange.

It’s really not. It’s just the whole “NRL = gods” lot can’t compute England’s excellence.

The Pacific Championship is being played according to the NRL and NRLW laws and interpretations of the game.

I assume this means that the 2 point drop goal was also included.

If so, with the NH internationals beng played at the same time, is this the first time we have seen Rugby League internationals being played with different scoring in games.

Yea, I mentioned this last week.

This is the first time we have had internationals played in both hemispheres that are being played by different rules.

I can kind of be OK with them playing by a hybrid NRL-International rules, but IMO they shouldn't be fully sanctioned 'caps' if they aren't under the same rules as the international body says. Especially when you have a different point system, i.e. the 2 point drop goal.

like I  said -almost  every favour that tonga and the kiwis gave each other to capitalise on will not be there against oz - it was a great game but nz were dreadful in the 1st half and tonga ran out of steam at ht - pretty easy win for oz next week

If you think Tonga ran out of steam at HT, did you switch off the game with 10/15 minutes to go?

Sorry, I missed you post.

I guess I  an get on board with some different laws or interpretations but a different scoring system is bizzare.

Yeah you're right. Someone like Mitchell Moses plays a perfect game, and didn't make any mistakes last week against NZ.
