Ivarr the Boneless Posted January 23 Posted January 23 (edited) The was a poster on the other forum who insisted thousands of fans would come flooding out of the woodwork if they dropped Quins RL and became Broncos again... The club have burnt too many bridges with many old school fans. I was a season ticket holder for 20 years, and did numerous away games. I now go once or twice a season and rarely bump into familiar faces. Any sensible plan now needs to be based on attracting new fans. Any old fans returning should be a welcome bonus. The Phantom Horseman Posted January 23 Posted January 23 8 triallists plus two young loanees from Wigan in London's squad for their Challenge Cup game against Goole. Who knows how long it will take until the rumoured takeover comes and perhaps reinforcements on the playing front arrive, but it could be ugly for them in the early weeks at least. 1 "I won’t engage in a debate because the above is correct and if anything else is stated to the contrary it’s incorrect."

Did you see Goole play at Featherstone? If so, what do you think their chances are against this London side?

It's really hard to say. It was their first game and it showed, there was a lack of cohesion and a lot of errors. But they were generally ok in contact in the middle of the field and will have the advantage of having a game under their belt. They definitely have a chance in this and I don't think it's an easy game to call. 2 "I won’t engage in a debate because the above is correct and if anything else is stated to the contrary it’s incorrect."

Four of the trialists were Skolars players in their final League 1 campaign 2

Since Skolars demise a couple played for Cornwall last season, the rest played London league. The immediate concern for Broncos fans is while we are glad we currently have a club - if they do not get a buyer to invest & are not able to recruit they could finish near the bottom of the championship. Goole will be interesting, I’m really looking forward to the game. Broncos still have some of our good players from last 2 seasons & a couple of Wigan kids on loan - will this be enough to cover the paper thin rest of the squad? Goole might actually be stronger across the 17 on the day! 1

Impartial Observer Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Lukas Mason is Keith Masons son. Luke Polessi came over to play for rochdale Mayfield in the ncl. Not sure how London have picked up him. Goole by 20 points at least.
Worzel Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Steve Mascord has just published an interview with Mike Eccles where says they're considering invesment from a couple of investment groups, and it's likely to result in a consortium rather than a single 'white knight' figure. He also describes how 3 clubs have been helping out. "Just to be clear, we've had help - a tap on the shoulder - from three big clubs," he said. "Wigan have just done some business with us for a couple of players. They were really adamant on supporting us and making sure we got through this tough time. "Hull KR have tapped us on the shoulder and let us know 'what do you need', really, in terms of players early doors. They've supported us in that way. And Gary and Leeds have supported us in terms of trying to secure some investment, which gives us all a bit of confidence really because he's classically the best administrator - off-field operator - in the game, isn't he? To have Leeds and Gary supporting us through this is huge for us, yes." Great to see that sort of best-for-the-game spirit going on, clubs aren't always as selfish as we make them out to be it seems. Wigan have always been brilliant at seeing the bigger picture I think. It's funny how high performance cultures are like that in all walks of life. In my own firm 'generosity' is a competency we recruit for when testing and selecting new staff because it has a really high correlation with both performance and leadership skills. I reckon it's the same in a wider business setting too, not just individual people. 9

Presuming the Wigan loanees are decent, it is a good pack. With lots and lots of untested outside backs. No idea who will be on the wings and in the centres. At a guess: Walker Wing Centre Centre Wing Polselli O'Beirne Bienek Davies Worthington Lovell Hursey-Hord Adebiyi Wigan Loanee Wigan Loanee Monk Winney
Barley Mow Posted January 25 Posted January 25 The loanees must be people that Wigan can't imagine being near a first team place this year, because they'd be cup-tied if they play today.
Archie Gordon Posted January 25 Posted January 25 Three-quarters are likely to include some mix of Ball, Ball, Small and Yates. Where have Boafo and Macani gone, I wonder.
The Phantom Horseman Posted January 25 Posted January 25 An early contender for "saltiest social media post of the season", admittedly from a serial offender... 1 6 "I won’t engage in a debate because the above is correct and if anything else is stated to the contrary it’s incorrect."
ricky Posted January 25 Posted January 25 2024: Super League 2025: our opponents had the benefit of playing a friendly!! As Larkin almost said, quality drops off like a coastal shelf. 1 1
THE RED ROOSTER Posted January 26 Posted January 26 While I would not claim that Goole are dislikeable as a side or club, it is indisputable that they have at this time in writing more money than London Broncos, have a vastly more experienced squad and did play the week before wheras London did not and it showed as the game wore on. Good luck to Goole this season and in the next round of the cup. For London some of more experiencxed players were the worst culprits when it xame to not respecting posession and giving away needless penalties. But over all there were some bright points in the two wingers, Jerome Bates and Leighton Ball and in the play of Connor O'Beirne. They club does need the ownership situation sorted asap though because they have a tough start to the season as it is, and an injection of limited fundng could mean the difference beween being in the top half of the table and struggling to avoid championship one. Incidentally "London Rugby League Hub" is reflecting the clubs party-line on the game as evidenced by the official match report London Broncos official match report 1 Quote "I picked these lads thinking they were ready and clearly some of them are not. I'm not blaming the players" Paul Farbrace - Sussex CCC and ex-england coach engaging in Wordspeak.... You either own NFTs or women’s phone numbers but not both
THE RED ROOSTER Posted January 26 Posted January 26 Just come across the article on a competitor website published just before yesterday's game London Broncos takeover latest as coach reveals club ‘nearly disappeared’ in off-season This has a number of interesting quotes from Mike Eccles notably (my bold) Quote When asked about the latest on the takeover, Eccles said: “It’s definitely a work in progress – and we are definitely not out of the wood. We’ve had a few different options put in front of us, and we could have had an option to take over the club now but I think that would have set us back as a club Quote "I picked these lads thinking they were ready and clearly some of them are not. Ivarr the Boneless Posted January 26 Posted January 26 I don't think the tone of the expectation management will surprise Broncos fans. This is a season to survive, both on and off field. As ever Mike Eccles comes across as a real asset to the club / sport.. 9

Ivarr the Boneless Posted January 28 Posted January 28 The main aim is to build a club which will be here in 2026. That involves someone buying in realistically. The secondary aim is to be in a position to build to win a franchise next time around, clearly relegation would be seriously bad news on that front. Mike Eccles has been clear, he stuck around as he thinks the club has SL potential. I doubt he'd stay if London are relegated. I suspect if investors appear they will bring players in from France to ensure on field survival. If no investors appear... 1
