Since February 2023, he has served as the Marketing Director for The Hundred

Welcome aboard, Joe!

Southern Brave fan here. A great competition is The Hundred. Hope you can sprinkle some of the same magic onto rugby league.

I can anticipate a few eruptions from the cricket thread regulars. :kolobok_biggrin:

Indeed. He's definitely leaving the loss making, audience losing, TV ratings falling, player recruitment stalling and new attendees forgotten tournament at the right time.

He'll also have a budget about 1/10 the size.

But, and I do mean this bit sincerely, should be a good appointment as he'll have had plenty of opportunities to put ideas into practice.

Great, standard RL fan mindset already in play in a positive thread I see.

I don't think The Hundred could ever have made money. It's a broken set-up from the off as the occasional release of internal documents with their projections on confirm.

But the match day experience and a lot of the things around it have been very good. I'd hope that's why he's on board with RL now.

Then why not ask Derek Beaumont how he has done it? Live bands and external fan zones at each game, now whether or not that has brought in the extra fans or the team in the pitch  is up for debate.

Because Beaumont is in charge at Leigh. Not sure he has the time or inclination to do a salaried job with the RFL as well.

Also, I think they were looking for a professional.

I suppose the question is how much of that is the blame of a Marketing Director and I presume he worked with whatever budget he'd been given.

The hundred did seem to be a success in terms of numbers watching and gameday experience, albeit on a terribly flawed business plan. Things needed in RL.

I think the Hundred was marketed well even though it's clear it's a dead duck. I believe RL still have room for growth and better marketing and branding will help with that.

I didn't say employ him full time, just ask him, perhaps he could do it on a consultancy basis, that's very vogue in RL at the moment.

We'd still need a Marketing Director at the RFL.

I assume having regular conversations with the clubs will be a major part of their day to day work.

Give Derek the RFL twitter feed, he would have the game trending every day 😀

Probably because he’s not a Marketing and Communications professional?

The Hundreds branding and marketing is very good, not knocked up in Microsoft Word, I agree if that’s what they want they want they should have asked Derek.

Or they could, you know, employ a professional.

I thought you were dead against the RFL's 'jobs for the boys' culture?
