Beat them and they’ll be interested…

Is that how this works? They're only interested in playing these games if they lose?

It was awful.

The atmosphere was really bad, even for an England game. I think there are things you can do to get the crowd involved even if that is harder at the former Olympic stadium, this does not include hiring a man to wear several shirts and take them off one by one to throw them in the crowd.

I've been to 2 internationals there and it's absolutely terrible for Rugby League.

It is. It works really well for athletics but not for RL. I'm sure there are reasons for that but it's not one I'd consider (again, unless there were amazing terms on offer and/or it was organised with a proper event village wraparound and entertainment).

Yes, and it would have to be in summer. Fairly bleak place in November.

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

Stratford wasn't great but I am trying to think why. The bowl doesn't help an atmosphere, for sure, but one aspect that wasn't the venue's fault was that the NZ game was perhaps the dullest ever.

I think the poor game contributed to the poor atmosphere and the poor atmosphere/setting contributed to the poor game. The rugby felt like something that was happening a long way *over there* and when you peered over the rugby on offer was pretty poor. In my case it didn't help that I'd dragged over four people from another country hyping up what the game would be like, and maintaining their enthusiasm was hard work.

I actually didn't mind it, but it's not a patch on Tottenham, which would be my first choice in London by a country mile, my 2nd choice would be Arsenal.

If you're going to stage a match in London then use the Queen Elizabeth stadium that West Ham are tenants of. I've been to two sold out Diamond League events there and it has a great atmosphere and superb transport links - the Elizabeth Line into the centre of the city can handle high load.

Definitely not Twickenham for countless reasons.

I've been to the athletics there and it's great, I've been to the RL there and it's bobbins.. Tottenham is the stadium we need to be using it's outstanding.

I dunno. What is a proper world cup tournament? We seem to engineer the tournament and be reducing the numbers of teams involved to avoid 'embarrassing' scores.

A 'league' system, played over a number of years, and culminating with some sort of play off series with 5 or 6 big finals games in the deciding Autumn, would be great.

It's an interesting one.. means teams have to be playing regularly and makes the games meaningful. Also when there are only one or two countries happy to host a tournament it can get samey, maybe with this you get some "off the wall" places wanting to host the semis and final which could aid interest.

We've done it this way in the past... Could be an interesting change. I like tournaments but the sport seems to struggle nailing the concept.

I agree. I saw some of Man City game on TV, it's vastly superior to any other stadium in the country.

We did it that way in the past but it didn't really add anything to what we where doing anyway. It was just a final tagged on to the 3rd test counting for World Cup points.

A dedicated World Cup with a combination of 4 Nations and tours in other years us a far more varied and vibrant calendar.

So it’s Samoa this year then the Ashes next year followed by the WC in 26. Is there anything planned for 27 and 28 yet?

The plan announced last year (when Ashes 2025 was due to be in Australia) was -

2027 - New Zealand in England

2028 - Ashes in England

I assume 2027 is unchanged. 2028, wait and see.

Plans change, it seems we get what we are given and we might find out a few months in advance what is confirmed. We "knew" Samoa were coming this year before Tonga left, but it took a long time to find out when, for how long and where they would play.

We should know the Ashes venue already, and I would prefer it if by the time of the Ashes tests, we knew where the NZ series was going to be held.

I was pretty excited for a tour in Oz tbh... i've seen Ashes in UK so many times and having the opportunity to tour oz was a bucket list / once in a lifetime opportunity!

BUT

I do think having this in UK makes more sense esp with the WC being in Oz (unless they change their minds on this one too) in 2026

Would be amazing if they could get Venues and tickets announced before christmas / end of the year but i'm not holding my breath

If it happens and we get the Ashes, followed by the World cup and then a home series against New Zealand, I think we can all be extremely excited about this next period of international rugby league. It should be the norm having a run like that arranged way in advance but it hasn't been (and still isn't to be honest).

That’s a good next few years tbh. If we can get good crowds and viewing figures for these home series (which I think we will with a bit of marketing), as well as increasing the stature of the Pacific Championship then the top tier of International RL is doing ok

The bare minimum we should demand as a sport is to have end of season internationals organised and for a multi year calendar to be set in stone. We have two major leagues, compared to other sports who have to deal with multiple governing bodies. We should be having mid season internationals IMO and the leagues should just go on around them but that won't be happening anytime soon. At a time that we have more competitive international teams then ever, to keep leaving things to the last minute cannot continue to happen.

Within the next 10 years, the international scene should be absolutely thriving. There are no excuses for that not to be the case.

I agree. It definitely needs building on. Big crowds and good viewing figures should hopefully make building the international game a priority. If they become a money spinner then the international game might start becoming a priority.

The minimum mid season for me would be ANZAC test, Samoa vs Tonga, PNG vs Fiji and Cooks vs Lebanon down under and England vs France, with Wales, Ireland, Scotland, Jamaica playing a test as well as the other European nations playing a test against each other

Just to throw another random London stadium into the mix for the sake of it. Stamford Bridge? I've never been personally so don't have an opinion of it. Would be Wembley or Tottenham's ground for the London game for me.

The Ashes in 2028 is a bit of a strange one as the authorities seem quite keen to interlink the Ashes as bring both a men's and women's event, which doesn't tie in with a 2028 Womens WC.

I don't think it's hosted any non-football events since the 1990s - not sure why.

A very nice traditional stadium. I went a few months ago. 40k capacity and a good location.
