If you're going to buddy up with a club on the other side of the world, it might as well be the best one........so congratulations to Penrith Panthers on their choice of partner 😀

On the subject of York, has the "Amsterdam Challenge" against Hull KR in late January been discussed on here? Unusually for a rugby league event, it appears to have been planned 9+ months in advance.

"Right, we want to start a women's team, should we train up players from the local community and build strong foundations?"

"Nah, just Google who won the Womens Super League and nick all their best players."

It'd be awful for the players to have a pathway to NRLW contracts.

Just think how bad it would be for the England women's team as well.

I think it has been because Atlantisman was sponsoring (or covering?) it.

Valkyrie contracts at York include break clauses, should the NRLW come knocking.

Of course it would be great, I was just having a 'have a pop at Penrith because they're annoyingly good' sort of morning.

Bit like super league poaching all the best championship players

sometimes you have to take a step backwards to move forward

Having heard about plenty of these "partnerships" that were compensation for a player leaving I do hope York will get more than a press release out of this, and if those ladies who wish to move to Aus can do so all the better.

For all the success Penrith has had with the men's game, the women's side of their operation has lagged. York Valkyie's success will be something to benefit from, especially if Penrith can put a team into the NRLW. I'm sure they'd want to hit the ground running and some Valkyie players would assist in that. It could go both ways too.

I wonder how much YK men's side will benefit? Penrith have a huge junior base so I guess that could be one avenue.

It takes wisdom to know when a discussion has run its course.

It takes reasonableness to end that discussion.

It also mentions junior development and setting up an academy in the article. This is the thing I’m most interested in. Will they use the partnership to help them increase the amount of juniors in and around York and set up junior pathways into the academy and first team?

The NRLW season is still very short. I would love to see the WSL finish around the CC Final time right before the start of the NRLW to give more players an opportunity for a longer professional experience in two continents.
