Just under 17k sold i believe and anything around 20k for a Thursday Night is tremendous.

Makes you wonder what it would be if it was A Friday Night or a Weekend ?

Going to be a great night. Personally I'm a Wigan fan, a boxing fan and a Lathums fan, so it doesn't get much better!

It looks to be set up to start with the sort of bang the season needs.

York have now sold more than 4,281 tickets!

I believe this will make it York's (Wasps or Knights) biggest home crowd since one of 4,977 at a league match with Halifax at the Ryedale Stadium in 1990.

If they can pass that, it'll be the biggest since 11,347 watched them against Leeds in the Cup in 1989 at Bootham Crescent (I assume moved there to cater for the crowd) - Do any York fans know if that is the biggest crowd they've ever had?

According to the commemorative plaque on Wigginton Road, marking what used to be the main entrance to the Clarence Street or Wigginton Road ground (1885-1989), York's record attendance is 14,632, set on February 10th 1934, for a game with Swinton.

Rovers bringing over 2,000 it seems, should be a great atmosphere in what looks like a really well designed boutique ground. Gutted I can't make it up on time tonight. This is precisely why we made the changes we did to the cup comp, I only hope the RFL don't listen to the usual negative voices and change back next year.

It seems very slightly disingenuous to me for York to be claiming this evening as their best ever crowd (only counting back as far as 2002 and discounting crowds such as that) whilst also having a founding date of 1868 on their badge

Look York selling 2000 for the visit of the Grand Finalists and biggest club in Yorkshire is brilliant for such a small club with limited potential

God forbid a club put a positive spin on things.

Yes agreed. Everything else seems entirely positive and I'll be there myself tonight.

Personally I'd have gone with 'best crowd for 35 years'.

That's positive and fits in with York's current position of continuation of the original club - since reverting to black and amber and using the 1868 date.

It’s called accentuating the positive, and celebrating success because you know that prospective new customers are more interested in associating themselves with popular things

I appreciate these are novel concepts for some people in the rugby league community 🤣

"Biggest crowd in 35 years" is more positive than "biggest crowd since we were formed in 2002"

Although I accept the uninitiated won't know they are referring to it only being since 2002 (especially with 1868 on the badge) - which I suppose is my point.

I just think projecting themselves as a club with a bigger history than 22 years of 2nd/3rd tier rugby and a couple crowds above 4,000 would do more for their image as well as being more honest.

The Knights were formed in 2002 after the demise of the old club. There has been a club in York since 1868 so that is quite rightly celebrated.

"Best crowd for 35 years" doesn't sound as exciting as "Best crowd in the Knights history" now does it?

It's just basic, positive marketing.

I think I've covered this in my response to Worzel above.

But I wasn't wanting to make this something major - I said a found it very slightly disingenuous. On the whole everything looks positive about tonight and I'll be there hoping for a hard fought entertaining game.

Exactly. You can't have it both ways.

No there isn't, but as the other poster pointed out, that makes it disingenious

I agree but I'm not sure it really matters. It depends whether more people notice the disingenuity and become less trusting of the club as a result or whether more people get swept along in the positivity, regardless of whether they spot any controversy or not.

Personally I'd prefer to focus on the longer history of a club, even if it's technically not the same club. I take pride that Wakefield have 2 stars above their crest (it would be nice to have more) even though Spirit of 1873 Limited trading as Wakefield Trinity haven't won any top division championships since they were formed. Disingenuous of me? Probably!

Workington now reporting more than 2,000 pre-sales for this evening's game with Leigh (and Town have sold out Derwent Park's sponsors lounge).
