I didn't know untill now that York Acorn are playing Hull and wonder why couldn't have Acorn playing out of York Knights ground ?

Said it was cheaper to rent Post Office Road, although you’d think they’d get far more from York going to the LNER which might negate any extra costs. I know a fair few who would have gone had it been there.

Also, they would have had to play Sunday and they wanted a night out on the lash in the clubhouse after.

I’d have loved to have seen a double header on Sunday, would have been magic that.

Workington now reporting more than 2,000 pre-sales for this evening's game with Leigh (and Town have sold out Derwent Park's sponsors lounge).

That's brilliant, especially for a Friday 7.30pm kick off. I was a bit gutted it wasn't Saturday (alhough understandable with the Wigan fixture) as I wanted to go to this one.

With Leigh opting against taking any of the gate split it should be a decent earner for Worky.

I would imagine this is a Degsy decision and whilst I'm no great fan of his, full marks for giving Worky a hand up.  We need to see strong Cumbrian representation as we had in the distant past.

Just out of interest how do you think gate money would have been shared ?

I agree but I'm not sure it really matters. It depends whether more people notice the disingenuity and become less trusting of the club as a result or whether more people get swept along in the positivity, regardless of whether they spot any controversy or not.

Personally I'd prefer to focus on the longer history of a club, even if it's technically not the same club. I take pride that Wakefield have 2 stars above their crest (it would be nice to have more) even though Spirit of 1873 Limited trading as Wakefield Trinity haven't won any top division championships since they were formed. Disingenuous of me? Probably!

A club has many component parts, any of the components can ensure the continuity of the club. I would put York down as a continuous club due to the efforts of the York supporters trust to ensure RL continued in the city.

It was and I think he makes a great point when saying that sharing these gates defeats the purpose of having these seeded ties with SL clubs away in the early rounds. The money is far more valuable to the Champ/L1/community clubs and not taking anything will not do any damage to a SL clubs bottom line.

I believe the attendance was just short of 3000. Fair play to both sets of fans.

Great turnout on what was a freezing cold night. 400ish Leigh fans I reckon.

That makes it an extremely impressive home showing, especially as there's another game in West Cumbria today.

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

Good turn out by the Leythers in fairness given the kick off time. Some good lads, had a crack with a few in the beer queue.

The video of the crowd at West Hull looks incredible! Don’t suppose we’ll get an official figure given they literally ended up opening the gates because the queues were so big

Glad to see a decent crowd at Haven too

Halifax v Catalans was 806. Pretty poor. The kick off time and the fact the teams met past year - when Halifax had a stronger team on paper - won't have helped.

I still can't help think that the RL fan 'vicious circle of negativity' had an impact as well, with lots of people convincing themselves it was going to be rubbish rather than hoping Halifax could produce the sort of performance they ended up delivering.

Indeed, Fax fans talked down the fixture from the off, and got the expected outcome. Whereas elsewhere - and if I'm honest to my surprise - many others have embraced the format and taken something positive from it regardless of the actual match results.

I remain a sceptic about the long term future of the CC but, this year at least, it's created a buzz in some of the traditional RL communities, and it would be churlish to deny that.

That’s a shambles of a crowd, and one entirely of their own making with a negative attitude from the outset. Kick off time wasn’t great, and they have a valid point to hope to be compensated, but it might have given them a chance to try something different for people who might not be able to make a Sunday game etc

West Hull asking very nicely if the people who got into Craven Park for free yesterday would like to send them a donation:

https://www.sthelensstar.co.uk/sport/24921068.west-hull-appeal-cup-fans-gates-opened-game/

As they should and hopefully a few respond.

But in this high speed internet age we live in, they really should set something up where fans can donate in just a few clicks. Gofundme for example.

Attendance at Headingley 1,310. Poor. I don't feel Leeds put any real effort into promoting this and the decision to play on Saturday at midday, whatever the reasons, was unhelpful.

Surprised more is not being made of the West Hull crowd (despite the few hundred that got in free), the crowd must have been pushing 4.5k. What is the record for an Amateur team home fixture?

If Hull FC get their act together, the city of Hull could really drive the sport forward this side of the Pennines.

I’m surprised it was so low, it felt like a few thousand were there. I agree, it was very poor.

The Rhinos marketing team are making a big effort for the opening game against Wakefield next week and it feels like this has been somewhat of an inconvenience. Wests deserved better
