Also watch YouTube a lot.

Then there is always Project Gutenberg.

Yes, I am into series 3 of Death in Paradise, Yesterday is good (Abandoned Engineering etc), I watched S1 Killing Eve, but cant get into S2, Musketeers, Sweeney, Professionals, some cookery shows on Sky 140, Wheeler Dealers with Ed China (dont like Ant, too smug). Started Plebs again, that's fun. Oh go on, Father Ted.

Go fishing , your in Hastings ? Must be some good fishing marks around the local area . 8/9 hours fishing you'll be too knackered to worry about what's on the tv .

I wouldn't bother going any further than series one of Killing Eve.

Would any one arrest someone who was admitting a 60 mile drive while testing his eyesight, with a child he was "protecting" in a back seat?

1 was good, 2 was ok but overall the story is slow, 3 more so. Just doesn't seem to be going anywhere.

It appears that this thread is gradually going away, a bit like the virus itself. But here I am, resurrecting it!

Getting very strict with the politics thing shows us that everything is political.... Hopefully this isn't, it's just a fact.

I spoke to a friend last night who works for the NHS. A month ago she came home from work feeling a bit tired, went to bed and basically didn't get up for about 4 weeks. She's still sleeping a lot and has a nasty cough. Despite wearing PPE, 24 people in her immediate area got COVID-19, a lot of them with more than mild symptoms. As she said, they must have been "swimming in it" in areas where there was no PPE but it was impossible to know - they thought they were still being careful.

The point being, this virus is still out there and, while it is, is capable of decimating groups of people in close proximity.

The news channels are all leading with the USA Covid deaths reaching 100,000; not-so-subtly hinting that the numbers are so high because the USA hasn't followed the UK lockdown regime.

US population is 328million ... deaths at 100, 000 = 0.03%

UK population is at least 60 million ... deaths are around 37,500. = 0.06%

Funny how our claimed death rate was falling before Cummings farago ... Government needs people to go back to work.

Funny how our claimed death rate shot up after the Cummings farago ... Government needs people not to ignore lockdown completely.

This is interesting and has many implications:

Coronavirus infection without symptoms might be more common than previously thought, according to a study of people isolated on a cruise ship during the pandemic.

More than 80 per cent of the passengers and crew on the unnamed cruise ship who tested positive for Covid-19 were asymptomatic.

The prevalence of the virus on affected cruise ships is therefore likely to be "significantly underestimated", the study published in the journal Thorax concludes.

"Strategies are needed to assess and monitor all passengers to prevent community transmission after disembarkation," the Australia-based researchers said.

Professor Alan Smyth, joint editor-in-chief of the journal, said the study's results could have implications for the easing of lockdown restrictions if more people than previously thought have already had the virus.

Of the 217 passengers and crew on board, 128 tested positive for the virus and of those, 104 patients - 81 per cent - did not have symptoms.

My daughter works in travel and has had to deal with a lot of cancellations and rebookings. Today she had to help a lady whose husband had died of the virus 2 weeks before his 60th birthday. She has a disabled son she will now have to look after alone. My daughter was in pieces afterwards.

Is your daughter getting any support? Sounds like she could do with some.

I think this is the first one for COVID. She's used to handling emotional situations - people cancel all the time due to deaths but something about this one, and the fact that she is working alone from home got to her. In fact she told us that a surprising number of honeymoons are cancelled because the couples split up between booking and the wedding so she's had a few emotional ex-brides to be too. I'll call her later - I hope she could at least take a few minutes off. They're pretty brutal on monitoring time and number of customers processed.

I've just watched the press conference and I see that part of the announcement was that people would be allowed to go through their houses to get to their back gardens, and that six people from different households would be allowed to gather.  Gosh.  With a daily infection rate of around 8,000 that sounds very risky!  I don't know about anyone else but I feel rather nervous about this releasing of the lockdown.

It feels a bit "too much, too soon" to me too.

Shops opening (with restrictions) is probably worth risking, as people have now got used to the restrictions when using the shops that were allowed to stay open.

With nearly 400 deaths it seems a bit early to me - nothing to do with politics, just my own risk aversion. I probably will go and see my daughter though. She's not had a great time in lockdown.

On a positive note, I cut my wife's hair today. I may well have been looking for somewhere else to live right now, but I think I got away with it.

Johnson will have been led by the science and made a decision appropriate to the needs of England at this time.

Dentists will reopen for face-to-face appointments from 8th June.

Expect it to be far harder to get appointments as dentists will have to do far more cleaning and disinfecting between appointments.

I did phone mine weeks ago to say my crown was broken or cracked.  She said they couldn't see me but she would put my name on the list to be called when they could see me.  So glad I did that now!

I assume they all must have got their PPE issues sorted out?  I have a cracked filling on a front tooth which came loose during the first week of lockdown and I went to a local private dentist (my own had already stopped seeing people) and he told me that he would be able to replace it as it had no decay but only if he could 'flick' it out as they couldn't drill.  It didn't come out and so I've been nurturing it ever since, avoiding any food going on that side of my mouth, hoping against hope it wouldn't fall out!

I'm going to be on the phone tomorrow to see if I can grab an early appointment!  I'm happy to wait for my hairdresser in spite of looking like stone age woman but the dentist: I'll fight anyone who gets in my way!
