It cost £3.2m for BV as it was. If thats the figure then Wigan should snap the hands off. I read their rent was particularly high (£500k+?). If that's the case then it's a no brained. Within 7 years on that rate the cost of the stadium  is covered.

That's not the figure, they bid £3.5 million and it was turned down by the administrator. What a bid would take to be successful is different.

An opportunity to purchase an asset like this from a distressed owner in such rich RL territory is near on impossible for both the Warriors and the RFL to turn down.

Sorry I thought the stadium was in wigan😁

I doubt the RFL could afford it, though agreed it would be great if they could and make it the national RL stadium.

How would it be a national stadium? It's too small for both our flagship finals, and I'd like to hope England games too.

Best outcome would be for Wigan to get control of it, fingers crossed they can.

It would be about right for most England games (see WC QF v PNG) and could also host the cup semi finals instead of having them at a football ground in a town with one small community RL club. But yes agreed it wouldn’t be any good for the GF or CCF, I hadn’t thought that through 😂

Of course it's an opportunity and that is why Wigan Rugby tried to buy it when Wigan Athletic were in administration.

When the new owners of Wigan Athletic took over they put up the rent to Wigan Rugby considerably and it now makes even more sense for Wigan Rugby to take over the stadium. Lenegan shouldn't let this opportunity pass and should try to buy the stadium now before any possible administration down the line (and perhaps another administrator that doesn'twant to seperate it from Wigan Athletic).

Lenegan should buy the stadium and immediately increase the rent to the football team, just as they did to the rugby team

This is the perfect opportunity for Wigan Rugby to buy the stadium.

What would the pro's and cons be for the club?.

Pros would be - among other things- they can put some safe standing in (so can be used for Football) - bound to increase crowds as sitting isn't the same when watching RL.

Ian Lenagan should do what is best to preserve the asset if he can get hold of it. Charging one of the only 2 potential tenants sufficient to ensure that they never get out of administration and possibly liquidate, thereby cutting off one of your funding streams is the highway to the madhouse and a sure way to ensure you cut of your nose to spite your face.

👍 Agreed. They also should carry large numbers to make it easier for forum statisticians to count the empty ones.😃

Now , this is the sort of great idea that them at IMG  should be looking at! 😁

The issue with the pitch is that the ground was built on poor quality land and there are also drainage issues,  it is a very thin layer mix of grass and synthetic.  Unfortunately it causes big issues with Warriors fixtures and they lose the rhythm of home/away fixtures

Just the same down the road at Leigh in that the ground is unusable every year (RL season) for maintenance, is the common denominator Wigan Metro being shareholders?

You could always do the work in October like Wakey and have the pitched luvved for the season.

Heard AB Sundecks had put an offer in for the DW btw, £6m
