Sports Prophet Posted October 2, 2023 Posted October 2, 2023 NRL averaged over 20k per match this year, with 6 clubs averaging above the season average. Dolphins ranked second. Record season, absolutely smashing the previous best average in 2010 by 3,000 per match, up by approx 18% on that season. 8

I can see the NRL building on that next season too. 2
Hull Kingston Bronco Posted October 2, 2023 Posted October 2, 2023 Hull KR forecasting sell-out of their Wigan allocation, already at 4,000… https://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/sport/rugby-league/hull-kr-tickets-wigan-playoff-8797472 On the Wigan forum it seems like they’re expecting a poor turn out of home fans though - a case of familiarity breeding contempt? If they’re saving up for the final then I hope we spoil their over-confident plans! 6 1 Apparently this site says I "won the day" here on 23rd Jan, 19th Jan, 9th Jan also 13th December, whatever any of that means. Anyway, 4 times in a few weeks? The forum must be going to the dogs - you people need to seriously up your game. Where's Dutoni when you need him?

If they’re saving up for the final then I hope we spoil their over-confident plans! It’s been an issue for us for a long time now and it’s so frustrating. I don’t think things look quite as bad for Saturday as some fans are making out because plenty of people won’t have tickets yet (our group who goes to every game haven’t sorted them yet) but we won’t have as many in the home stands as a bog standard league game and that’s so wrong. 4

If Wigan have as rubbish a turn out as fir the Leeds semi last year it will be awful

How much does one ticket actually cost? edit note* at the risk of sounding incredibly inconsiderate, are there really that many fans short of an extra £30 - £50 to go to one extra game? Then they could have been be placed in the empty seats at the matches on tv. The game will never learn.

Yeah, I mean I get why so many Rovers fans are coming and if we're in the play offs for the next few years I wouldn't expect the same number to travel, but I find non-attendance for a home play off semi-final as really weird. It's not like Wigan have won the Grand Final in the last few years, this season is your best shot in ages! Hopefully it won't be as bad, like you say, it's not like you need to buy far in advance if you're a home fan. Fingers crossed. 2 Apparently this site says I "won the day" here on 23rd Jan, 19th Jan, 9th Jan also 13th December, whatever any of that means. Anyway, 4 times in a few weeks? Fair enough to an extent but if you that sort of money is an issue then surely the cheaper option of the £25 and no travel costs by watching your team have a chance to win the semi at home should be priority 1

Football teams in the poorer Northern towns don’t struggle for crowds (Burnley being a great example, also Preston, Blackpool, Bradford City etc) so I don’t understand the rationale on this forum that RL is played in poor areas and people can’t afford one ticket on top of their ST. It’s more of a cultural thing that RL fans don’t go to extra games. 3

There's an economic argument for ditching the playoffs and adding a couple more rounds of fixtures with top two in the grand final. As I have said many times - playoffs get poor crowds because they're arranged at short notice. A reasonable proportion of people can't rearrange work or other things they do with only a few days notice.

A lot of rugby fans will also be ST holders of footy clubs, footy season is back on, lots of internationals in RU and NFL, soccer etc and its coming into party / Christmas time. The RFL are also flogging the internationals to THE SAME set of fans!

It’s the culture of RL that’s the reason, not money or logistics. 3

EggFace Posted October 3, 2023 Posted October 3, 2023 Is it not up to IMG to get the crowds to games.

Really? FA cup semi finals don’t get low crowds and they’re arranged at short notice. Plus fans have to travel to those games. 1

City v Sheffield United had over 20,000 empty seats (I believe empty seats is the preferred way of counting these things). 1 Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day.
