Premier Sports offer to broadcast all Championship games

The clubs have not yet accepted it, Bradford opposed for some reason.

As with any business deal I suspect the amount of money coming in from it vs the amount of money they expect to lose elsewhere would be the reason to support or turn down the deal. 

Turning down the first offer is sometimes a way to get a better second offer?

Not much detail so hard to judge if this is a good thing or not. I suspect the clubs will be pleased that Monday night is not being considered this time around.

The RFL must have run numbers but is premier offer plus production costs (?) worth more than potential SL plus growth minus production costs?

Strange that Bradford went against it, afterall they just make their crowds up anyway so it shouldn't really affect them in that sense.

The club watchalongs sounds like a good idea, though it could decimate away followings to and from Cumbria say.

You're right.

The point's made that Superleague clubs would not be happy if the deal were rejected as they take 78%.   But there's not much of an incentive for Championship clubs to accept if they only get 13% of £50000.   That's only £6500 - presumably to share between them.   And we don't know details of the downside - would Premier dictate when the games are played?  Hopefully not at that fee level.  The upside is the TV exposure but how widespread would that be?

Lots of unknowns here.

Is that 13% of the whole TV income rather then just the Championship broadcast deal? If so they they'd be well up. 

Doesn't make sense otherwise why SL clubs would take 78% of it.

Exactly, we're taking about a niche sports channel, with little chance of anyone discovering Championship RL by accident. Clubs would be better off streaming their own games and charging, as many other sports do.

I don't think the article was clear if that is a 13% of all or of each income stream (though arguably that makes little difference practically).

I've always felt that Premier coverage and presentation has been fairly decent, but just too hidden away. It needs a Sky Sports to take it on with the same production and presentation teams.

I read it as every TV deal is split 78:13:9.

The downside is that it implicitly assumes that the income will come from Superleague matches.  In which case Superleague generously give 22% to the other divisions.

What we have with this deal is the Championship clubs are being asked to generously give 87% to the other divisions.   Which reduces their incentive to accept somewhat.

Having said that, the whole article is vague.

Ah the old 'being on TV reduces attendances' trope. I have literally no sources but I'm pretty sure it's been debunked many, many times.
