Newcastle 11th August.

Can't even dream of us losing. Keighley put 70 odd points against them yesterday and looking at Newcastle's squad they had at least 5 loan players just brought in players to make the fixture.

Beat them and then on to Keighley to become champions.

It’s sad for Newcastle. I was living up in the north east when they were growing, building roots in the Gateshead community in the early 90s. Full time Development Officer. It all came crashing dusk when they were forcibly and irrationally merged with er, nearby neighbours Hull!!! They built again from scratch and it all came crashing down again last year. Let’s hope that they can rebuild again. This weekend if we keep a strong pack I’d certainly put Tyrer back in, give some of the squad players a run. We’ll surely have enough with practically any 17 against Newcastle.

Could rest a few carrying knocks. Would be interesting to see if Ellis is available to partner up with Lawton again on our right edge. Great partnership earlier in the season.

dont know what went wrong with my last post.

any way i agree with shaw with what he said regarding ellis and lawton.

atacking the right edge.. but also ellis and wardle on the left edge.

thats when we ware scoring all those points.

so to me against keighley it must be ellis at scrum half.

Is Ellis even fit and committed? 4 games until his contract ends.

That forced ‘merger’ was certainly a big factor but then the resurrected newcastle side was holding its own in the third tier until the RFL chose to move them up to the championship without them earning it through promotion. Such a move was always going to end in tears.

Meanwhile clubs like Oldham and Rochdale have been left to pursue a place in the championship through performance on the field and thats how it should be.

Totally agree with that. We had beaten them in the promotion final, then we got relegated, thunder then got promoted based on , God knows what. I remember hornets were in the group that could've been promoted. Was it Salford who were promoted to SL when they were 4th or 5th ???

Rest all our big players for the massive Keighley game which if we win ensures promotion. Turner, Mo, Wildie definitely rested for me. Bring in O'Keefe and Tyrer in the backs. Would like to see a few changes in the forwards with Hirst and Yei in and maybe give the starting front rowers a rest as they've been magnificent.

I was thinking something along the lines of

PLT

Tyrer Johnson O'Keefe Dixon

Astley Ellis

Johnson Aldridge Koppy

Hirst Wardle

Moran

Subs

Wildie (restricted minutes and cover for halves and hooker)

Yei

Lawton

Gallagher

With the best, thats a good bit of PR, though I would say the Bedford team, theres, like, you know, 13 blokes who can get together at the weekend to have a game together, which doesnt point to expansion of the game. Point, yeah go on!

Sadly, both Fordy and Ellis will know that his days playing for us are now 'numbered'.

Although his ability to kick is still good, both his speed and stamina are nowhere near good enough for what's going to be needed for us in the Championship.

Agreed. Not convinced at L1 level either to be honest. Since he’s been out of the side, our mobility in the halves has improved dramatically. The move for Dixon plugged the goal kicking gap.

With the players out injured and the one's that have left, it'll be interesting squad news tomorrow, some players could get a much needed run out, and then onto kieghley where we might have a couple of players back win the league, c'mon owdam 💪😃🏉
