I’m not from Bradford so have no idea but do you think there’s much interest in them in the town these days? Other than football these things can die off pretty quickly, look what’s happened to Widnes too, if they got back in SL I doubt they’d average much over 5.5k, as sad as that is.

They got around 2,500 last season, just creeping over 3,000 for the bigger local derbies so i think it's safe to presume the dancing housewives and merry falag wavers are long gone.

So here's a question, if Salford's players are refusing to train ahead of a match this week but have to play the match would the club be at risk of player welfare issues in having them playing in a match they hadn't conditioned or trained for?

Bradford for a decade or so were also quite different than the Bradford I've known for most of my life. Literally just about every duck possible aligned in a row to produce those crowds and success. The SL dawn, Peter Deakin, the marketing, the whole Bulmania and an absolute dynamite team with genuine stars. Full credit for what they achieved and they were as dominant a team as I have seen.

However low crowds and financial instability have been more the norm both before and after the glory days. I'm not saying Bradford can't do better and can't be an asset to SL but I can't see them getting as big as they were at their peak either. Something absolutely remarkable would need to happen to achieve that in my opinion. I do hope I'm wrong.

I tend to agree. In reality, based on what they have been a relatively short while ago I'd expect them to be a step above other Champ clubs and lower SL clubs at least. That they have just settled into that Chanpionship group for a sustained spell now suggests they are at their current level.

Any club could make the step up with with enough money behind it.  That's the be all and end all.

Take Huddersfield, they wouldn't be anywhere near SL without Ken Davy.  Without money Salford are nowhere.  Not long ago Hull KR were just like Bradford now.   Same with Hull FC.

A challenge there though is that Bradford couldn't make a club work financially when they were getting up to a 15k average.

Salford have averaged a third of that and naturally struggle.

I'd love to see a strong Bradford, but there is always this vague comment about Odsal being a money pit that is never quantified really.

One of the reasons the RFL said they wanted shut of Odsal was a 6 figure annual maintenance bill which, if true, will almost certainly mean the cost to Bradford to play at Odsal will have increased fairly significantly by buying back the lease.

I doubt a few days makes any difference with regard to safety.

Yeah I think it's been confirmed by multiple parties that the maintenance on Odsal is a drag, be it the RFL or various versions of the club. I'm sure someone who knows the story better than me will clarify the details, but there was the case a few years ago where a bill for fixing one of the public toilets at Odsal was running into the tens of thousands of pounds as it was unearthing all the other related but necessary jobs.

I think the responsibility has been with the club in the past though - in better times and I think even originally when the RFL took ownership it was the club's responsibility for a time. I think that ended when liquidation occurred and it reverted back to the RFL

Despite the club actively talking about a return to SL for the best part of a decade, I can't see I've ever really seen anything that makes me think many realistic strides have been to try and achieve this. A bit of an odd complaint because actually I think whilst it's been a pretty unspectacular ride since the promotion from League 1, it's been probably what's needed. It just doesn't make sense that the club goes on about getting into SL every so often. I do suspect we may end up in SL soon - maybe not in the next year or at Salford's expense - but I do think, fanbase aside, I'm not really sure what aspect of the club is ready for it.

Anyway, I hope Salford pull through. It's an absolute awful situation to be in as a fan, and I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

The situation with Bradford, previously Leigh, Wakefield and Hull KR goes to show how valuable having a championship is to Super League with the latter 3 showing a good roadmap of how to use it to you’re  advantage, cut costs and learn to do things within you're means and come back more experienced and stronger.

I think Bradford need another year of ground improvements and on field improvements before they push for Super League.

Salford on the other hand would probably benefit from a year or two down there.

Except going forward, promotion to SL will become near impossible.

A SL spot should have a price on it, say £5m which is held and ringfenced should a club leave. The interest on £60/70m would pay for a good marketing team or a few development guys

Have they been paid today?

Reports said the players had been told that it would be tomorrow or Wednesday. How that jump was made, from being confident it would be last Friday I've no idea.

What a farce, their position in SL should be suspended forthwith. It makes a mockery of the league when some teams get an easy two points playing their kids. Better just bite the bullet now

We have play-offs, so doesn't really matter. Also, luck of the draw, similar with the Origin period over in Oz.

Oh yes it does, some teams will play Salford an extra time in the loops. Depending on that and whatever shambles of a side they field. It could make a significant difference in getting to the play offs and where you finish in the play offs.

Plus IMG points are available for league position, so there is also that to consider

This is just an awful situation. I really feel for all the staff. Just terrible when you have a family and bills to pay. Forget what happens on the field and all the pointless politiking. The players looked really down at Rover's on Thursday. Good luck to all of those affected.

In a couple of weeks they'll be in Spoons, it'll be all they can afford!

You are not only a man of reason but clearly a learned person, but can you tell me where we are with this Salford situation.

I've been busy for a few days so rather than scroll any chance of a few lines to see what's happening at Salford please?

Kind regards.

Bof.

This is European RL, we know what can happen at any second, remember Bradford not paying their staff and players and asking people to donate £100 to them?

Who knows what will happen at Cas in the near future.

No idea, as far as i am aware they still haven't paid their wages and are still a basket case of a club.
