I was present at the naming of the bar tonight and all I can say is what a great night it was to celebrate one of the most influential ‘non player’ the club has had to be lucky enough to have had associated with, long reign ‘Keith’s Bar’9 points

'That doesn't warrant you throwing yourself to the ground like a footballer'. Wonderful from the ref.6 points

Mate if you`d seen the press coverage over here you`d understand, it`s been mental. So mental in fact that that idiot union apologist ftzsmmns has written another article in today`s Herald bagging it: "I think the NRL opening round is this weekend, yes? If only there had been a little more coverage! " It is just the ludicrous hyperbole that goes with it which grates" " grates" it`s really getting under his skin, meanwhile union super rugby magic round goes unannounced and unattended. But back to your question, even if it achieves not much more than what it has then I don`t think that will be a bad thing. One interesting development that seems to be coming out of the Nines being held the last couple of days has been the number of female players that have caught the eye of NRL scouts for the NRLW, given the much smaller player pool for women over here perhaps we may see the USA being a useful scouting ground for that comp, what an interesting twist that would be if we started to see decent numbers of American players in the NRLW.6 points

Effective in defence certainly, and exploited Catalansdill-discipline very well, though both Bentley and Newman very luckly to remain on the pitch, Newman in particular sceaming obscenities at the ref on more than one occasion as if he were on a night out in Leeds city centre. Appaling individual who in Jim Mills and Mike Nicholas days would have enjoyed some correctional attention.5 points

After watching the replay, I think there's little doubt that the ball will have come into contact with the ground even though Sims' arm was under it. What I think frustrates everyone is that Kendall gives the "try on the field", even though he hadn't a clue. And, as we constantly hear from the VR dialogue, he has to follow the guideline of whatever Kendall says, so gives a try, even though he hadn't a clue either. This desperately needs changing.5 points

In that case would have been better to stay on Channel 4 if we end up with a load of matches on fringe channels4 points

Beaten 30 - 12. We had a shocking first 5 minutes going down 12-0 but we competed with Wakefield for a good 75 minutes and had periods of dominance. Pack was outstanding and kicking in the second half was superb along with our defence. We have a good side here, there was a lot to like about today's performance.4 points

No way that warrants 8 point try AND a binning . But a elbow in the head of guy prone on the floor is a polite warning4 points

Yep. Whilst I didn't want to see cards spoil games, I immediately shouted to my daughter, 'Forceful and deliberate contact to the head, no mitigating circumstances. Red card'. What do I know?!4 points

Graeme Peers has been named interim Workington Town Chairman. Having someone like Graeme looking after the club is great news, good luck to him. https://www.townrlfc.com/article/803/town-name-interim-chairman?fbclid=IwAR19PBTpEOckXKyBPhvfQ_vSLfs-FAklV9RvFnP1HZwQel1Q3nLg8yk38J03 points

Some people seem to lose their ability for rational thought when it comes to Bentley. The shove was an obvious penalty.3 points

That was dull game, interspersed with some iffy decisions which basically controlled the proceedings.3 points

How can you deliberately elbow someone on the ground and not even get a yellow, never mind a red? That's been a red for a few years now. I expected yellow for Sims and red for Bentley, strange.3 points

You play to the whistle, drummed into every player from the very first time they touch the ball3 points

Absolutely baffled by the inconsistencies in applying the rules here. The first clash with force and direct to head. Yet that one with a tonne of mitigation gets a yellow...3 points

I think Sims and Bentley could easily have been binned there for their exchange of forearms on the ground. Both looked direct to the head or neck IMO.3 points

Semantics. The point is, it's forceful contact to the head even if it is an open palm and you can do quite a bit of damage to someone with the butt of your palm if it's thrown with force as Lafai was doing. If they are serious about cutting down head contact then it seems daft to allow attackers to contact the head with impunity whilst severely cracking down even the slightest secondary contact from defenders.2 points

Maybe they'll be a bit quieter this week until they're the real deal again2 points

A hand off by the ball carrier is allowed as per the laws of the game and is clearly defined. Attack to the head by a defender isn’t.2 points

Wow, top man Graham. We all think we are all Town die hards, we are paled into insignificance when you look at what he has done for the club. I’ve been turning up and handing my cash over for nearly 60 yrs, it’s not enough to keep the club going. People like Graham are priceless, we have had plenty like him down the years, they are special people who have Workington Town deep in their hearts. Thanks to you all. UTT2 points

Leeds coach Smith doesn't see anything wrong with Bentley elbowing someone in the head whilst on the ground Really? I suppose it explains some of his players' behaviour at times?2 points

This is about future gambling revenue, not current media coverage or a few games in Vegas. I suspect the NRL will be hosting major US gambling companies in Vegas this weekend and saying - "look at this, we dumped an unknown sport here, got 45-50k people turn up with no national media coverage, we have nationwide Fox TV coverage lined up for our competition, these are the gambling options, are you interested in investing?" Their decision will decide how successful this all becomes.2 points

Talking to my mates coming back from the match and we thought we were fortunate. With the injuries Leigh had picked up during the game we thought they might’ve tired but they kept on coming. They had us stretched out wide a lot of times, Leigh are a great watch when they throw the ball about. I was very very impressed with their No6 (sorry don’t know his name). Thankfully we held firm which is a big positive our defence is really good. Our attack is hit and miss a bit like our kicks in general play, i wish we had someone who could kick a 40/20. There was a lot of errors throughout the match but it was still entertaining to watch in the stadium, it was a good atmosphere with the Leigh fans backing their side for the full eighty, but by eck it was freezing. Standouts for Saints hmm the Makinson try was a cracker i thought Hardaker (was it Hardaker) had Makinson but he managed to get over.
