Don’t know if this has been put on here before ….. Irene Triplett was the last person to be collecting a monthly American Civil War pension when she died in 2020!

Her father, Mose Triplett served with the Confederates before defecting to the Union Army.  He was 83 years of age when Irene was born in 1930 😲

Duran Duran wasn't the first multi-Duran band in music. In 1954 vibraphonist Cal Tjader formed a quintet featuring brothers Manuel (piano) and Carlos (bass) Duran.

When Roger Bannister broke the 4-minute mile record, there were others in the race like Chris Chataway and Chris Brasher (founders of the London Marathon), plus George William Nankeville.

George William who? Apparently very successful world-class middle distance runner in his day, but also the father of Robert Christopher Nankeville.

Robert Christopher who? The entertainer who adopted the  stage name "Bobby Davro".

A washing machine that texts you five minutes before it's finished is proper science fiction!

except if it is real time, not washing machine time it will take about 1/2 hour to actually finish

You can buy a roasting/BBQ thermometer that links to your mobile phone and gives the estimated cooking time (based on the oven's ambient temperature compared to the internal temperature of the roast), a five minute warning, a "done" alarm and a resting time alarm.

And it hasn't got arms and legs, so it can't take over the world (on its own at least).

The new Sainsbury's up the road has opened today. This replaces the old shop on the site next door, which in turn was built on the site of the warehouse where my second-ever job was based.

Since Adelaide Oval held its first Test Match in 1884 - and prior to the start of todays play between Australia and India - there have been a total of 403 days across all of those test matches.

During that time only 2 full days of play have been lost to rain

For those interested the full days of play lost occurred in 1974 (4th day) and in 1975 (1st day).

Our local council car park has turned 4 parking bays into EV charging points.I was surprised to see that if you use one of the points you still have to pay the parking fee.Does anyone know if this is the norm,or is Gt Yarmouth council particularly moneygrabbing.

Not an uninteresting trivial fact, but I would be surprised if this has ever happened.

Watching the Big Bash cricket match between Adelaide Strikers and Brisbane Heat, Adelaide had a debutant bowler called Haskett.  In his first over he got hit for a six and the ball was caught by a bloke sat in the stand who remained stony-face and just threw the ball back. Later in the innings it showed the replay of the catch again and the bloke who caught it was Hasketts father!  What was funny is that when it showed the replay the father put his hand on h his wife’s shoulder and she pushed it away.

To add to the coincidence, the on-pitch female presenter commented that she recognised Hasketts mother as the teacher who had taught her Human Biology at High School.

Ah! An uninteresting fact.  The game had a total of 26 sixes which was the joint highest total in Big Bash history.
